Walter is fiercely protective of his "desk job" in the library that he jockeyed to get shortly after he arrived, in April 2024, as he is too nervous to openly seek a sinecure or fully explain that his asthma places physical limits on him. He was initially informed by Emet-Selch that all library workers should share all library tasks including some degree of custodial cleaning, and although subsequent supervisors and workers have been much more open to delegation, he still keeps a cache of quaint cleaning supplies in case his dedication is ever questioned, even including an apron and feather duster. He also transfers carts of books and media to central areas for others to shelve.
The circulation desk with only two inmate members is operated in strictly alternating shifts of about 20 hours a week (in my head, I'm playing the inmate here). Walter is quite knowledgeable and more so after working here for months. He feels important when he gets to explain the magical reading tools or the DVD players to those who need help. He usually has a puzzle on paper with him, like a crossword. Needing to decide whether to listen through network drama at the desk gets him very antsy.
He also jokes about the media outreach program with CR and will deliver to them.
