In the two and a half years he's been on the Barge, most of the changes in Laszlo's behavior have been enacted solely to accommodate the setting, in that if he were to return home (or leave the ship for a port), he'd go right back to feeding from (and in many cases murdering) humans.
In the recent breach however, he truly found out what it was like to be a victim of being fed upon in a terrible way, which would have turned him into a monster eventually, as opposed to when Nadja first fed on him and made him into a vampire (which was a good thing in his opinion, not seeing or caring if he were a monster to others). This thread with his warden was especially helpful in clarifying things for him.
Going forward, he will not be murdering anyone else, confining his feeding to blood bags, wild animals and willing human donors.
