Nope, that's totally fine! We'd ask you to touch base with the staff if it were something that they might be on the lookout for, or end up on the hook for (ex. stealing cutlery), or if he were doing something big that wouldn't make sense for dining room workers to ignore (ex. if you wrote him going on a full rampage and smashing every dish in the place, with no space for other characters to notice and intervene), but just smashing a couple things with plenty of opportunity for people to jump in and try to stop him is fine without prior notice.
