TLV - Character Applications (OLD FORM)

CHARACTER APPLICATIONS
Applications are CLOSED until 12:01 p.m., January 1, 2011.
[0 out of 20] total app slots filled.

Application Periods are held for the first full week of every month.

ETA 2/1/11: Please note that the guidelines for applications have been revised; we now expect at least five solid paragraphs for the personality section of applications. The application form has been revised to reflect this. Also, as of February 2011, we will only allow THREE APPLICATIONS PER FANDOM IN ONE APP CYCLE. This means that if one fandom receives three applications during application week, any additional applications for that fandom will not be accepted and will need to wait until the following application cycle.

Please read all rules and guidelines before submitting an application. Be sure to check the Taken Characters List and the Retired Characters List before posting an application here.

NOTES:
  1. We are no longer accepting apps for fandoms that are less than a month old. If you're unsure about something-- such as an episodic fandom-- please ask the mods for clarification.

  2. Trade-In Apps: Current players have the option of trading in a current character for a new one. Trade-In Apps will NOT count against the App Slots, so even if all slots are full, you can still trade-in for a new character. However, bear in mind that trade-in apps are not guaranteed approval for your character. If your trade-in application is rejected, you don't have to drop the character you were willing to trade in.

  3. In the interest of keeping a balanced and diverse cast list, we are presently not accepting applications from the following fandoms, due to a high volume of characters present in the game already. This list is subject to change, so please don't think it means you can never apply for a character in these fandoms!
No fandoms are capped at present.

Applications for members of all other large casts are accepted on a case by case basis.

  4. New characters will not be accepted unless your existing ones are reliably meeting the activity requirements. This also applies if you have just come off hiatus; you need to demonstrate for two weeks that you are suitably active with existing characters before apping a new one or it will be rejected without reading it.

  5. As of February 2011, we will only allow THREE APPLICATIONS PER FANDOM IN ONE APP CYCLE. This means that if one fandom receives three applications during application week, any additional applications for that fandom will not be accepted and will need to wait until the following application cycle.

Character Name: Captain Morgan Adams
Series: Cutthroat Island
Age: 31
From When?: Post-Film, pre-PotC referencing.

Inmate/Warden: Warden -- In Morgan's long life as a leader she has always felt she's contributed the most when she's had people to give something to. She wants to do good, and to help.
Item: A Compass
How Long Have You Been Here?: Morgan has been aboard the barge for the length of, by her reckoning, a year. She has already Wardened two Inmates who have since gone on.

Abilities/Powers: -able rider, swordsman, swimmer, and gunner
-has rudimentary knowledge the keeping and running of a full ship and crew
-can read English, but also has a decent understanding of maps and charts
Personality: Morgan is nothing if not determined. When she wants something, it is simply only a matter of time before she gets it. Brave and impetuous, she often will undertake difficult tasks without either taking into consideration that she may be placing herself in danger or really caring. She has little fear of pain, and she keeps a cool head in a conflict. Being accustomed to getting into trouble, she has a tendancy to plan for the worst to happen, and contingencies will fall into place to bolster her safe escape.

Application 2/3

[identity profile] magdaleina.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
History: Daughter of Black Harry Adams, Captain of the Morningstar, Morgan has always been quite familiar with a mariner's way of life. When she was still very young, her mother took ill and eventually passed away; her father chose to bring her aboard and look after her himself rather than find someone on land to see to her care. He simply could not trust anyone else to do it with her mother gone. Much of her childhood and adolescence was spent under the watchful eye of Glasspoole, a sailor aboard Harry's ship whose eventual sole purpose would be to keep an eye on Morgan and protect her. She served in her younger years as her father's 'servant' (since she could hardly be called a cabin boy) until she was big enough to work ondeck, when that occupation was conferred to a new member of the crew, a boy by name of Bowen. By that age, she was also large and able enough to go seeking her own mischief. It seemed that every port they stopped in, she was up to some sort of trouble -- whether stealing or picking fights (their story, not hers), and it seemed by cunning and providence alone that she made it back to her father's ship safely each time, Glasspoole and Bowen always seeming to follow just a few paces behind her. By the time she'd reached full adulthood, there were as many bounties for her arrest as there were for her father, the most notable being a hefty sum offered by the governor of Port Royale.

After leaving the ship for a little time to herself, Morgan received an urgent summons from Black Harry to return. She finished what pressing business she had as swiftly as she was able, not realizing that her delay meant he would try to come looking for her himself, leading to the capture and boarding of his ship by one of her uncles, Captain Douglas 'Dawg' Brown, seeking one of three pieces to a treasure map that he happened to possess (unbeknownst to Dawg, it was tattooed on the man's scalp). The map would lead to a remote island known as Cutthroat, where an ancestor had hidden a vast and enormous treasure, concealing its location and splitting the map in three pieces -- one was left to the three elder of his four grandsons.

After escaping Dawg with a mortal wound, Harry told Morgan to shave his head, take the map piece, and go seeking her uncle Mordachai for the second piece (the third, Dawg possessed). He also left the Morningstar to her, despite the controversy this would start with his crew for bypassing laws of rank. Her mission: find or steal the other pieces of the map, and get to the treasure before Dawg. Though some friends encouraged her to leave the ship and do as she pleased, she chose instead to take responsibility for an unhappy crew, months from their last good plunder, and go seeking her father's final wish. This required first securing a person who could read the latin inscriptions on the map pieces, and they stopped in to Port Royale to look into the slave trade (it was common practice at this time for all ruffians of various sorts who were not sentenced to death be sold into slavery instead -- this included pirates and other scoundrels).

Here, she purchased a con-artist by name of William Shaw, who had been recently jailed for dressing above his station, sneaking into the Governor's home during a gala and stealing from several of the women there, whom he had charmed with much finesse. Proving he could read latin, and claiming to be a Doctor, Morgan bought him (while incognito), then escaped with him back to the Morningstar. They journeyed then to find her uncle, Captain Mordachai Fingers, in Spittlefield Harbor of Jamaica.

Character Name: Vesper Lynd
Series: James Bond (Casino Royale/Film version)
Age: 27
From When?: Post-Casino Royale
Inmate/Warden: Warden, to repent for the lies and deceit
Item: A while mobile phone, Sony Ericsson M600i
How long have you been here? Long enough to understand the ins and outs of this place

Abilities/Powers:
-Determination - if her mind is set to it, she can do it.
-Quick-thinking - Able to work under stress and think on her feet
-Smarts - is bilingual (French and English), university graduate
Personality: Vesper is smart and calculating, she comes off as cold and sometimes controlling, but it is to hide her insecurities. She has always come off as a forceful person, working harder and more aggressively than others because she thinks that people will not take her seriously as a woman. She tends to come off as very abrupt or harsh, giving her almost an air of mystery.

She describes herself as a 'complicated woman', but is really no different than most women, especially when in love. She is easily used to gain things an enemy way want of her when it involves those she cares deeply about. Even though she can be used in such a manner doesn't mean that she has given you her trust. She is wary of those she doesn't know, unless she is encouraged of their trust.

Vesper can prove to be a skeptic and watch things very closely, although she has a somewhat fragile view on violence, she doesn't particularly like seeing it or being involved in it. It bothers her deeply. She adjusts to new situations quickly and thinks on her feet. It has come in use in the past, when Bond was poisoned and she rushed to his aid after he didn't return, it was her arrival and quick thinking that saved his life.

History:
Vesper Lynd was born in Surrey, England in 1981. She came from a fairly well off family. When Vesper was eight her parents died in a car accident, forcing young Vesper to live with her grandparents. She was a loner for a few years until her teen years. She became active in school, taking a particular interest in languages and mathematics. She worked hard, showing her grandparents that she was able to jump straight into university, instead of a two-year college to start off.

She was accepted into the University of Greenwich, much to her delight. There she proved to be a hard-working student, not interested in activities as much as getting her work done, still she had a fairly active social life and a tight-knit group of friends. She met her first serious boyfriend at the age of twenty-three while finishing her degree. He was half-French and Half-Algerian as he came to England to study. The relationship lasted and persisted and he told her of plans of marriage, giving her a necklace as a promise ring of a sort as they went into the real world, with Vesper as a young accountant.

Things turned ugly when a deal made between her boyfriend and an organisation went wrong. They took him as a hostage, torturing him and in his pain, he revealed the young British girl he loved and her profession. They hoped to use her position to extort money in return for his safety, thus placing her opportunely as the liaison from the Treasury to the MI6 in an operation to bankrupt terrorists.

Vesper never counted on things to happen as they did. At first she was appalled by Bond's ego and worked with him unhappily. She warmed up to him slightly after he comforted her after a brutal fight, where she believed a man's death was on her hands. After the poker tournament, Le Chiffre (having just lost), kidnapped both Bond and Vesper and tortured both, in which, Vesper agreed to give them money and information in return for her boyfriend's and Bond's safety. The head of the organisation, Mr White, put an end to the torture and let them go. She didn't leave Bond's side through much of the time he was hospitalised, their mutual dislike becoming a blossoming romance.

[identity profile] maureen-cohen.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
They looked to start a new life together, Bond leaving the MI6 to be with Vesper. While on holiday in Venice, the money was handed over to Mr White, but the men locked Vesper in an elevator. As the building started to crumble, she resigned herself to death, knowing that she had wronged her new love. Despite his attempts to save her, Vesper was gone.

Sample Journal Entry:
I can’t live like this anymore. The deceit is far too much. What deceit? I love him, that isn’t deceit. I don’t have a ‘tell’…but I am able to lie to him so easily. It’s for his safety, his own good. I don’t want him to end up dead. He can’t, that’s why I have to do this. I love him too much. Is that wrong? It wasn’t supposed to be this way. I wasn’t supposed to fall for him, but I have. James treats me like a goddess, taking me to Venice and being my strength. Maybe he’ll never have to know what I’m doing and when it’s done…it’s done and we can be happy….

Sample RP:
Where is he going? Vesper though uneasily, red painted lips parted and blue eyes following the blond man out of the room.

Bond shouldn't have left the game, he was still doing very well, but there was something wrong...something off about the way he looked. His expression told her of pain and unease and she saw him grab two items off of the table, but she didn't see what. Her eyes turned to Mathis at her side, who looked just as worried as she did.

Silently she left the casino without making a scene, heading for their suite. She hoped that he went there and not somewhere else. She moved as quickly as she could, her legs feeling like jelly under her weight. It felt as though the elevator was making her wait purposely, just to mock her. Causing her to hiss, ‘Come on, come on’ under her breath and resist crossing her arms across her chest. Panicking would do her no good in this situation, nor did looking as if she was fretting something. She was supposed to look lovely and not lead to suspicion as she was doing at the moment.

As the elevator came, she walked in briskly and pushed the button to the third floor and waited, cursing herself for knowing that every moment she wasted, Bond could be that much closer to death. Of course, his death wouldn’t be her fault, but it would be on her conscious that she could have done something and didn’t. It was the ding of the elevator arriving to the third floor that forced her brain to come-to and her body to work in automatic to the room as if she had walked this route a hundred times. Only disappointment came when she entered the room and Bond was not there.

Special Notes: Ummmmm….errrr….no?
Oh yeah, finals week is this week and next week…hopefully it won’t drag me away from my laptop too long.

Other Characters: NOBODY

Character Name: Master, The Master, Master of all things, Your Master, etcetera etcetera. (Real Name: Koschei, but nobody calls him that... or knows that)
Series: Doctor Who
Age: ~900 years old
From When?: The end of “Last of the Time Lords”

Inmate/Warden: Inmate, because really, who would trust the Master to be a Warden?
Item: N/A
How Long Have You Been Here?: N/A

Abilities/Powers: As a Time Lord, the Master can “cheat death” by undergoing a Regeneration process, which is sort of dodgy, and can only be done about twelve times, unless you’re the Master, then it can be done however many times you feel like it (well, with cheating). While it allows him to recover from mortal wounds, it also makes him become a “new” person. His entire appearance will change, and certain aspects of his personality will, as well, but in essence, he’s still the same old sadistic bastard. He has the same memories, skills, etc. He is, at once, different and the same. The Regeneration process is incredibly taxing, and it’ll put him out of commission for a little bit. Although he can Regenerate, the Master can’t magically heal from all wounds in seconds, nor can he grow back a missing limb, unless these injuries are sustained while he still has some residual “regeneration juices” in him. Aside from the ability to Regenerate, the Master’s life span, in each incarnation, is far greater than that of a human’s. Barring accidents, a Time Lord can practically live forever. Also, he has increased stamina, more energy, and can more quickly recover from being attacked than a normal human. Despite this, he is still susceptible to many things that could kill a human, and some things that are totally harmless to humans, such as aspirin (which can, sadly, kill him)

Although he appears human in most respects, the Master is not human, and there are some significant physiological differences. He, like the rest of his kind, has a binary vascular system, i.e. two hearts. This comes in handy, you know, in the event that he sustains an injury that stops one heart from working. He doesn’t like having only one heart in use, though; it feels weird to him, and it hurts… since you’d hurt, too, if your heart stopped. He also has a respiratory bypass system, which allows him to go without air for a while. Also, his body temperature is lower than that of a human’s, and is generally around 15-16 degrees Celsius/60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Even though it’s not a “power,” the Master is quick-witted and resourceful, and he’s an expert in technology, history, and science. He can create a number of inventions, usually weapons, and is basically a super genius. Luckily, he’s insane, so that will sort of limit what he's capable of (or greatly expand it!). He is a skilled hypnotist, and is capable of dominating others.

Re: The Master

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: The Master, in this current incarnation, is like a cartoon supervillain. That’s really the only way to describe him. He has always had fancies of extreme grandeur, but in order to capitalize on one of the Doctor’s greatest strengths-- his sense of humor-- the Master became a sort of… Time Lord equivalent of the Joker. He is a narcissistic megalomaniac, a sadist, and a psychopath. Among these charming qualities, the Master is also obscenely arrogant, vain, and prideful. The Master is, essentially, insane, and has been since he was a child. He's tormented by the drumbeat of war, endlessly raging in his head.

The Master is a sociopath who develops no real affection for anybody (except for himself), and is incapable of self-sacrifice. This means, if he has to destroy himself to destroy his enemies and succeed in his plans, he won't do it. Ultimately, his own survival and happiness is his only real concern-- and his happiness is generally dependent on how powerful he is and how miserable everybody else is. Like the Doctor, the Master is a genius; however, he's an eeevil genius. His sadism and cruelty is actually one of his greatest weaknesses; he'd stop in the middle of his plans just to kill an insect.

The Master is pretty hyperactive, and he relishes victory and success. He'll gloat endlessly over his victories, and will sometimes delay killing an enemy just to keep them alive and tormented. His greatest fears all revolve around the Doctor: the Doctor victorious, laughing over him, or the Doctor showing him compassion, uttering the words "I forgive you."

History: The Master's history is as long as varied as his arch-nemesis's. So long, in fact, that you should just check this link out for the gist of his history: Wikipedia lol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_%28Doctor_Who%29).

Basically, the Master was taken to the Academy at the age of eight and made to look into the Untempered Schism, as was typical for all young Time Lords. While some were inspired by it, others ran away or were driven insane. The Master's of the latter group. As he looked into the Schism, the sound of drums invaded his head, a never-ending call for war. He went off to become a constant thorn in the Doctor's side, returning again and again to destroy his former friend/greatest enemy. At one point, the Master even ran out of Regenerations, but still managed to find a way to live, taking the form of a snake-like creature and possessing unfortunate individuals.

Anyway, the Master eventually died, only to be resurrected by the Time Lords to fight in the Time War. However, when the Dalek Emperor took control of The Cruciform, the Master became so frightened that he traveled to the end of the universe to escape, and utilized a Chameleon Arch to rewrite his DNA. The Master became human, with his Time Lord "essence" trapped within a fob watch, which had a perception filter that would make the human Master unable to pay too much attention to it. He became Professor Yana, a kindly scientist with a mission of helping the last of humanity escape a dying world to go to Utopia. It was then that a mysterious Doctor, a girl named Martha Jones, and a (totally immortal) man named Jack Harkness entered the Professor's life. The trio set about helping him set off the rocket that would launch the last humans into Utopia, all the while dropping words that triggered strange feelings in him: time travel, regeneration, TARDIS... When he pulled out a funny old watch that he'd always had, Martha's reaction to it caused him to fixate on it. Funny, he'd never really paid attention to it before. It was always broken...

Character Name: The Marquis de Sade
Series: Quills
Age: 54
From When?: Just after his deth

Inmate/Warden: Inmate

Abilities/Powers: No special powers. He's an able rider, swordsman and marksman though.
Personality: The Marquis has never been anything if not opinionated. He is unashamed of his views, especially not of voicing them, and he has little care for causing grief for the people that trouble him as well. He likes to shock people -- as a matter of fact, he enjoys it more than is probably healthy, and many of his exploits and writings were exercises in this rather than the purporting of his genuine beliefs. Definitely, he is of the kind that believe that people should speak without fear of punishment, and despite his very open views on the rights of the artist, he does not appear to so readily think that artists should be responsible for the impact of their work. The fact that he posts clear disclaimers on all of his writings is a clear show of that.

He does have morals. He would never practice the things he writes about, with the exception of a few odd kinks that were, truthfully, common among most men of the Aristocracy that'd been schooled by the Jesuit lycee. He writes all the horrid things that he does because they are there in his mind and must be purged in some fashion. Most of all, he is openly disgusted by the human preoccupation with associating all bad things with demons or the preternatural; much of his writing is there to illustrate that there is true evil in the world, and man is more than capable of it without help from demons or the Devil.

Lascivous by nature, he is very frank about the subject of sex, even the more bizarre corners of the practice. In fact, people might be inclined to think that it's all he ever really has on his mind, given how much he writes about it, and that he enjoys shaking people up by likening it to almost everything. ...That being said, they're probably right.

An amorous fellow, he also seems to enjoy nothing more than courting the favor of someone he admires. Though his prose does tend to be on the verbose and laughably purply side, there is a notable charm to his speech and his writing when he is feeling particularly amiable.

The Marquis calls himself an Atheist, though his beliefs in terms of higher power are more complicated than a mere term could really define. He professes Atheism, naturally, because in the time he is from, there are only two choices: You either believe in the Christian interpretation of God (particularly Catholic), or you don't believe in anything at all. That was how things worked back then. There were no other faiths with which to compare to. What the Marquis believed in as a higher power, however, was Nature as a living entity, so in some way, he did actually have some spirituality in him after all. He is so very preoccupied with talking about there not being a God -- just to piss Christians off -- that it tends to overshadow the fact that he does believe in some sort of deity; he just doesn't have the verbage to really express it as such.

Inmate App 2/?

[identity profile] magdaleina.livejournal.com 2008-05-11 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
History: (Note that I do make use of some actual history, here, to buffer the character's background, but I have adjusted some details to fit the version of De Sade that is in the movie -- supporting those historical innacuracies rather than changing the film, itself, to fit what actually happened.)

Born in the Conde palace in Paris to the Comte Jean-Baptiste de Sade and Marie-Eleonore de Carman and first christened Donatien Alphonse Francois de Sade, the Marquis was born to a life of privelage in the last decades of the French aristocracy. As the spoiled rotten only child of his parents, he came into his early adulthood and a lifestyle that would have been marked as excessive even among other Libertines. He served as a colonel in a regiment of Dragoons during the whole of the Seven Years' War and left the service a decorated soldier, remarked to have orchestrated a number of the successful campaigns for the French -- often by means of tactics that were regarded by his superiors as insane. He departed with such comments as his record as "it's a good thing he's on our side", in fact.

Whether it was the impact of the war or his own bad habits that sent him back to his usual habits, none could really be certain, but he put his father to shame with the amount of debts he began to stack up. Soon, he was arranged to marry the eldest daughter in a family that was not part of the old nobility, as his family was, but among the rising wealthy middle class. Renee Pelagie de Montreuil was a much plainer woman than most, but remained a steadfast supporter of her husband for much of their lives together. The Marquis had such a deep love and sense of friendship with her that he kept much of his more distasteful exploits a secret, and when caught, exercised great expense to keep such news from her. He continued to rent apartments in the city with which to entertain prostitutes and courtesans and actresses (all VERY common for aristocratic men at this time, by the way) to handle those vices he felt ashamed to defer to Renee for. He served his first jail sentence (though eventually reduced) when a prostitute reported him for shouting blasphemies at her during intercourse. (No, I'm actually not making that up.) Shortly afterwards, much of his exploits could never again be kept secret, as the King and his consort, Madame de Pompadour, out of boredom began hiring private agents to track the sexual exploits of the nobles and report back to them with them. Essentially, in some of the final years of the Monarchy in France, the Aristocracy had lost their right to privacy, all to entertain a King and his disinterested Mistress.

Many of the Marquis' scandals continued to remain under the notice of his wife, often with the help of her mother, a controlling and shrewd woman who went to very great lengths to maintain the image of her family. He would be catapulted into the ranks of the imfamous, however, when a prostitute by name of Rose Keller (claiming to only be a widow looking for work) accused him of kidnapping her, whipping her to the point of bleeding, cauterizing the wounds with hot wax, and then keeping her prisoner. Though no physical evidence of any reported injuries being found upon immediate inspection, it was largely accepted that the scandal took place anyhow -- some people even going on to claim that that Marquis had developed a salve that healed on contact (and these people actually BELIEVED this). It was just before full blown chaos erupted that the Marquis finally came clean with his wife and made plain to her the events that took place that night. Upon his arrest she became the loudest supporter for his release.

Henry West

User Name/Nick: Ros
User LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pyroslut
AIM/IM: pyrocornflakes

Other Characters: The Master

Character Name: Major Henry West
Series: 28 Days Later
Age: 36 years old
From When?: After he got his face ripped off by zombies.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate
Item: N/A
How Long Have You Been Here?: N/A

Abilities/Powers: Major West is a normal human, so he doesn’t have any special powers or anything. What he does have is extensive military training, so he’s proficient in firearms, survival skills, and… hitting people. Otherwise, there’s nothing special about him. How sad!

Personality: Major West is somewhat complicated, I guess. He likes to think of himself as a very pragmatic, practical, and disciplined man, but, he really isn't. He is capable of doing inhumane things for what he thinks is the “greater good.” He likes to absolve whatever guilt he feels by not personally committing whatever great acts of violence/cruelty he allows. For example, despite promising his soldiers that they could have sex with the first women to come across them (whether the ladies were willing or not), West himself never actually behaved inappropriately with the women or expressed any sexual interest in them. Instead, he just stood aside and allowed his men to go ahead and do what they want, going so far as to order the execution of those who'd stop it from happening. In this way, he is perhaps even worse than the monsters he’s supposed to protect people against. Honestly, he’s not even that good of a leader. He wants to keep his boys happy and protect them, but he does so by pandering rather than keeping order.

Emotionally, he’s pretty weak, and he needs to be liked and seen as a good guy in order to live with himself. He is deeply devoted to his men, and wants them to show the same loyalty to him. Major West is a “man’s man,” and he has a sort of patronizing view of women, believing they ought to be restricted to more “traditional” roles. As such, he’s not particularly fond of taking orders from women, although he’s fine with women in power “in theory,” so long as they aren’t in direct control over him. Overall, Major West is quite reserved and won’t talk about his personal life or feelings often, although he’ll maintain a charming and friendly enough face around others and will display a sense of humor from time to time. Physically, he’s very reserved, too, and will maintain rigid, militaristic body language at almost all times. He doesn’t flirt with others, and his sexuality is kind of ambiguous; it’s hard to say if he’s gay, straight, bisexual, asexual, pansexual (okay, that's a highly unlikely one), or what. He won’t let on very easily or willingly.

Re: Henry West

[identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com 2008-05-12 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
West isn't an idiot, but he's not a genius either. He has a sort of stand-offish, book-smartness that enables him to approach certain situations with a cold, detached attitude (situations like chaining up an Infected and waiting for it to starve to death, while more bleeding heart types might have a problem with such "experiments"). However, his practical intelligence isn't that great. He tends to assume that things will work out as he dictates, and doesn't really plan very well for problems. When he's really upset, he stops thinking things through completely, and will behave like a moron. West can be rather arrogant, and will sometimes smugly taunt people/things that he has an upper-hand over.

History: Henry West doesn’t have a particularly interesting or unique history; in fact, his early life was marked with total and complete averageness. He was born and raised in London, to a somewhat inattentive father with a military background and a doting, stay-at-home mother. The family was pretty solidly working class, and although he couldn’t have everything he wanted growing up, he was provided with everything he actually needed. His father encouraged him to work hard and earn his own money from an early age, so he was often doing chores and whatnot around the house, or doing jobs for neighbors (until he was old enough for a real job). As a youth, he was interested in becoming a footballer, but he wasn’t really good enough to play more than recreationally, and his father firmly slapped down such silly notions. At school, he was an average student overall, although he was rather keen on history. Still, he opted not to take his A-Level exams (which he would’ve solidly performed “so-so” in), and after working with his father for a bit, enlisted in the British Army at the age of 18. He took quite well to military life—in fact, he excelled in it. Annnd this is why he remained in the military for 18 years, rising in ranks until he became a Major.

When Henry was 36, an outbreak of some kind of crazy monkey disease spread across Britain, infecting people with “Rage,” essentially turning them into frothing, ravenous monsters (but we can’t call them “zombies” because that’ll start a month-long debate about Romero zombies vs fast zombies. OH NO!). Throughout the outbreak, he managed to protect most of his men (although many did end up dying at the hands of the Infected), and they were able to inhabit a large, fancy home, which they fortified into their own military base. Traps were laid, enabling them to blow up or shoot down any Infected that tried to get into the house. While this was hilarious and fun, the men quickly grew despondent. What was the point of fighting if the entire world was overrun by infected? When West came across Jones, one of the simpler, more innocent morons in his charge, ready to shoot himself because there was no future, he tried to raise morale any way he could. Because his men weren’t that bright, the best solution he came up with was “We get to start civilization all over again when we find women. AWESOME, RIGHT?!” The consensus of the men was, for the most part, “Yeah!” And so, West looped a broadcast claiming that they had the cure for Infection, hoping to lure any survivors to them.

Of course, his intentions weren’t all that horrible. In his own sick way, he thought he’d be helping anybody who came across them. It was just, well, while receiving protection, the women would have to have sex with his dudes whether they wanted to or not, and the male survivors would just have to sit back and deal with it (or join up). So, they win and his men win. And in doing so, he wins! Win-win-win!

Other Characters: N/A

Character Name: Rose Tyler
Series: Doctor Who
Age: 20
From When?:Post- Doomsday

Inmate/Warden: Warden
Item: A mobile.
How Long Have You Been Here?: Three months.

Abilities/Powers: Really Rose has no real abilities or powers to speak of.
Personality: Rose has shown herself to be a quick-witted, inquisitive and compassionate young woman, who despite the strange events she was thrown into was quick to adapt to them. She fell easily into the role of the Doctor's latest companion and showed both determination and courage while facing various alien threats. She can tend to get very curious about things, which can sometimes lead her to run into trouble. Once curiosity has her, it's hard for her to break away from it. It is also obvious that she cares deeply about the Doctor, although she denies any infatuation with or romantic feelings towards him, despite indications to the contrary on several occasions. It is only when time is running out on her and she knows that she'll probably never see the Doctor again, when she admits her true feelings towards the Doctor telling him that she loved him. She never did get a response back as he only managed to get her name out before he faded away.

She cares deeply for her family and friends. The loss of the Doctor and the great life that they led affects her for sometime, however she doesn't dwell on it for too long or so she tries not too, getting back on her feet. She remains focused with her work at Torchwood, defending the earth, finding new alien technology, while attempting to live that fantastic life that the Doctor would've wanted her to lead in the process. It's hard to balance, but she's a survivor and adapts with time.

History: Before Rose met the Doctor she was working as a shop assistant at Henrik's department store in Regent Street, London. She lived a fairly normal if not predictable life, until she met the Doctor and Henrik's was destroyed.

From that moment on Rose was thrown into a world aliens and travelling through time and space and along the way she discovered that travelling with the Doctor was anything but predictable as she was thrown into danger after danger on a regular basis. But she never shunned away from this new way of life, instead she thrived on it.

Soon the Doctor, Jack Harkness and Rose found themselves aboard a space station attacked by thousands of Daleks. Fearing for Rose life the Doctor tricked Rose into entering the TARDIS which he had rigged to send her back home to her mum. Refusing to just forget about her best friends who were fighting for their lives in the distant future, Rose convinced both Jackie and Mickey to help her open the heart of the TARDIS so she could talk it into taking her back to help them.

Looking into the heart of the TARDIS (the time vortex) resulted with Rose consuming the vortex energy, giving her control of the universe itself. She became Bad Wolf. She and the TARDIS returned to the Doctor, who was just about to be exterminated, and using her newfound powers she reduced the entire Dalek fleet into dust and brought Jack (who had been previously exterminated) back to life. However, no one should ever look into the time vortex, and so much power was killing her. Luckily the Doctor extracted the vortex energy with a kiss, sacrificing his ninth regeneration. Before Rose's very eyes he regenerated into the tenth Doctor.

Rose at first found it difficult to come to terms with the Doctor's transformation but when he saved her life (and the rest of the world) from the Sycorax, she was finally convinced that this strange-looking man was truly the Doctor.

The pair continued to travel through time and space, growing closer than ever before. Her attitude changed from an awe-struck passenger to an experienced time-traveller. However their fun and games came crashing down when they landed on the impossible planet where the Devil itself was trapped. It taunted Rose with promises that she would die in battle and though she managed to push those scary thoughts aside for some time. These promises soon become a reality when the pair stumbled across Torchwood.

The world soon found itself caught in the middle of a war against the Daleks and the Cybermen. The Doctor figured out a way to trap both sides in the Void between their world and a parallel world (Pete's world), but in doing so Jackie, Mickey and Rose were left stranded in the other universe.

Devastated, Rose tried to get on with her life but soon found herself having strange dreams where the Doctor would call to her. Following those dreams she found herself in Norway and a beach called Bad Wolf Bay. The Doctor managed to project an image of himself through the last crack between the two realities so they could share a tearful goodbye.

Believing that she could never see the Doctor again, Rose tried to move on with her life but even to this day she struggles to do so.

Sample Journal Entry: [5-10 Sentences]
It was sort of odd when I first got here but I’ve been adapting as best as I can so far. Some days it’s harder than others with Inmates moving in and out of here like a revolving door. But I know that I just have to stick with it, despite how it can get sometimes. I have to. I made a promise a long time ago and I plan to keep it. I have to see him again.

Other Characters: None.

Character Name: The Doctor (Ninth)
Series: Doctor Who
Age: Approximately (or supposedly) 900 years old. (Actually, fanon and some evidence says he's lying about his age and is over a thousand, but let's not go there)
From When?: Let's say... from right after he sent Rose back to the present in "The Parting of Ways"

Inmate/Warden: Warden. The Doctor is a champion of goodness and mercy in his home universe, a moral compass where many have none... but he's not without his sins. Having ended the Time War, and with it the Gallifreyan and Dalek races, he feels guilty, feels he needs to atone. How better than to guide lost souls... and maybe himself? Actually, given the place I chose to take him from, I could see him bargaining for a "way out" of that situation, or a way to save humanity, one presented to him later by lol bad wolf.
Item: Well, for incoming information the Doctor would probably have his trusty Psychic Paper, although I'm sure we could find such uses for the Sonic Screwdriver too. The psychic paper is kept in a little wallet, so it can be flashed like ID.
How Long Have You Been Here?: Let's say that the Doctor's been here long enough to get the gist of things. Week or two?

Abilities/Powers: As a Time Lord, the Doctor has a number of abilities, including insane historical and scientific knowledge aquired in his near (or more than a) millenium of life. He also has the ability to sense fixed or unfixed points in time and space--what can be changed and what cannot. He's resistant to a lot of things that humans are not, a list of which would be way too complicated for here. You know, lol two hearts and all that stuff. And when he gets mortally wounded, he can regenerate into someone with a different personality and appearance, up to 12 times, for 13 "lives" total. He's on 9/13 right now. As per our discussion, this would not automatically take effect, but be at our discretion.
Personality: The Doctor is always clever, nerdy, and sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. He's always trying to save the world, to save everyone. He loves meddling with things and getting involved. He also likes to take companions, to make friends, and doesn't function all that well completely on his own. He needs someone to talk at. This particular Doctor is a bit... manic. He's hyperactive, generally kind of cheerful, action-oriented, and wild. He loves cracking jokes and is often wearing a crazed smile that somehow doesn't manage to be threatening. At least on the outside. On the inside, he's angry, lonely, and wracked by guilt, guilt for the things he's allowed to happen and the things he's done. Emo doctor is emo.

His response to this barge business would be one of curiosity, and if certain conditions are met, shock, confusion, and guilt. Actually, he'll go through those anyway, just moreso if certain things happen. But that's how he responds to everyone--wisecracking and shock, confusion, and guilt.

History: Well, if I were to write up a complete history of the Doctor, I'd be here forever. Indeed, the detailed information on the Doctor can be found either via a trip to Wikipedia and search for his home series, or a few hours futzing around the Doctor Who wiki (http://tardis.wikia.com/). So I'll give you the short version. Which is still very long.

The Doctor was born on gallifrey, inducted as a Time Lord, made to look at the untempered schism, etc. etc. etc. Drove him kinda mad, it did; from that moment he sort of set up his life to run away. He was friends with the Master and the Rani in academy (lol koschei?), but eventually they all became outlaws. The Doctor at some point fathered children and got a granddaughter, Susan. He travelled through time and space saving the day, eventually with Susan and two other peeps. From there on out it's a blur of Daleks, time travel, Cybermen, saving the world, and regenerations. For a while he was stuck on Earth by the Time Lords, working with the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT) under the infamous Brigadier, with Jo Grant. Eventually he got his TARDIS working again had some iconic adventures with a journalist named Sarah Jane, travelled with fellow Time Lord Romana (well, Time Lady), saw one of his young companions, Adric, die, almost choked one of his companions, etc. etc.

All through this, he and the Master kept running into each other and thwarting each other's plans. To go back into the old series would be too complicated, so I'll pick it up during the 7th Doctor's reign.

At some point with the Seventh Doctor, there was this business with a cheetah planet, that transformed the Master into someone more animalistic. That was resolved but some time later, near the end of the 7th Doctor's "life," the Master ended up getting found and executed by the Daleks. The Doctor was asked to return his remains to Gallifrey, but naturally it was all a trick, and the Master forced the TARDIS to earth, stole a paramedic's body, and tried to steal the newly regenerated 8th Doctor's (regenerated after being shot by San Francisco gangs and having his hearts mucked around with by a surgeon). The Doctor got amnesia (and a huge crush on the Doctor) for that, but eventually he regained his memories, the gang defeated the master, and the Master fell into the eye of harmony. The Doctor thought hte master was dead.

But the Time War was on. The Doctor's botched mission to destroy the daleks before they could come to power had started a war, a war between the Time Lords and the Daleks. Presumably, the Master's "execution" by the Daleks was an attempt at a truce. However, after that all hell broke loose--do you really expect Daleks to negotiate? It's got the same number of syllables as "exterminate," but still. So while the Doctor fought on the front lines, the Master was revived by the Time Lords, to fight as well--he was somewhat uniquely suited to the job, being the bastard that he is. He ran away and hid himself as a human using a chameleon arch, while the Doctor ended the war and wiped the Time Lords and Daleks alike out of existence. This presumably cost him his eighth life, and the big-nosed, big-eared Doctor that I'll be playing emerged, his home planet and people burned to nothing.

Other Characters: The (9th) Doctor

Character Name: "Charlie"
Series: Power Rangers S.P.D.
Age: Not given in canon. Given the Power Rangers legacy it is likely she is between the ages of 24 and 30, but she is no younger than 21.
From When?: Charlie is not killed in canon, but given that she committed high treason, it is not unreasonable that she might be executed post-canon. She would be taken after this hypothetical event.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. Charlie, was a Power Ranger, a superhero-like status associated with great moral integrity. When she was kidnapped by the evil Troobian Empire, sold out Earth in exchange for power. She personally initiated the kidnapping of Earth military commander Anubis Cruger and lead the battle against the B-squad of Power Rangers, all because the Troobians promised her and her team Power over Earth once it was defeated. She is a selfish traitor who has not learned the value of loyalty to anything above her team of comrades, without a sense of honor and justice. She is willing to doom a whole planet out of anger at a handful of individuals.

History: Due to the way Power Rangers SPD was written, there aren't many details about Charlie's history. Her name, for example, was only given in the ending credits of two episodes, and her face, voice, and sex, were not revealed until episode 36/38. Since Charlie spent the bulk of the show out of view to maintain surprise, much of her story must be extrapolated from various lines of dialog.

Charlie comes from a world of Power Rangers, superheroes who, using a device called a morpher, can summon a brightly colored suit around themselves that provides them with superpowers, which they then use to protect Earth from evil. Rangers are usually independent, but Space Patrol Delta is paramilitary. Rangers work in teams, and the redranger is almost always the leader, and always male. In this universe, there was a war between SPD and an evil empire known as the Troobians. The Troobians were known for destroying planets they no longer needed. They were very powerful and successful; they took Sirius, the home of SPD. There was only one known survivor--Anubis "Doggie" Cruger, who saw his wife kidnapped by the Troobians right before the battle was lost. Eventually, Cruger was assigned to S.P.D. Academy on Earth. During the early years of this merger, another alien supervised a group of human scientists in the creation of morphers, and, in 2001, a lab accident mutated them. These scientists would have six children total, three of whom were brought to attend the S.P.D. Academy by their (surviving?) parents, two of whom ended up on the street, and one of whom suffered an unclear fate.

At S.P.D., there were plans to have two active teams of rangers at any given time. The A-squad, a higher ranking squad, would be the first line of defense, and then there would be a backup squad, B-squad, who would do anything the A-squad was too busy to do. A-squad was composed under unknown circumstances, although a throwaway line by a B-squad ranger about the A-squad's hints that they were selected for combat skill and strength. The B-squad, however, was composed exclusively of children of the mutated scientists, who had inherited genetic powers. Later, the two mutant children who had gone to the street were also forced into S.P.D., based solely on their mutant powers and with no prior training, bypassing a number of other cadets who had apparently been in the program for much longer.

Charlie, 2/?

[identity profile] onlytalewetell.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
A mistake by the B-squad allowed the Troobians to come to earth, and the Troobians set up a battle on another planet to lure and entrap the A-squad. Charlie was the A-squad's red ranger, but for reasons unknown her voice was disguised while she was a ranger, making her sound like a man when morphed. Charlie and her team were captured by the Troobians. What happened next is unclear, but while the B-squad defended Earth in their place, the Troobian's ostensible leader, Emperor Grumm, apparently offered the A-squad a deal--work for him, and gain control over Earth under him. They accepted. It is strongly implied in the end of the series that a number of Troobian raids on other planets at the series' end were conducted by the A-squad. Eventually, the Troobians laid a trap for the rangers. On the planet Gamma Orion (presumably orbiting the star Bellatrix, which means "female warrior"), they sent out a distress signal for S.P.D.. After the B-squad arrived and defeated a Troobian, the A-squad revealed themselves--including Charlie's gender. Charlie flirted with the B-squad red ranger, teasing him about not thinking that she was a woman. Cruger dismissed the B-squad and began to talk to the A-squad, but they morphed into their Power Ranger suits and kidnapped him while his back was turned, taking him to the Troobian flagship. Charlie justified this move with the line, "Grow up, Doggie. Everyone wants to be on a winning team." She challenged the B-squad to fight the A-squad... and the A-squad lost narrowly. After a complicated giant robot battle, which they also lost, the A-squad was captured and placed in containment cards. Eventually, the rangers defeated the Troobians

From here, a few observations need to be made. First, SPD is a misogynist organization. Males are assigned colors according to their rank, but unless a female is the leader, her color doesn't seem to change based on her rank. At least one B-squad ranger is openly sexist. The Troobians, who have a penchant for psychological warfare, make a point of abducting Cruger's love interests. The Supreme Commander of S.P.D. divides the B-squad by gender lines when he feels they failing. Compare the Troobians. While the Troobians are destructive and generally engage in terrorist tactics, they are implied strongly to be unprejudiced. The apparent second in command (actually third) of the Troobians is a female warrior who has the appearance of an eleven year-old child. What about the B-squad and A-squad? They show a great deal of disdain for one another; B-squad constantly whines throughout the series and about being "backup," "zord clean-up duty," and how they are generally considered to be less than the missing/evil A-squad. A-squad, meanwhile, is hates B-squda; Charlie refers to them as "losers" at one point, and generally mocks them. Consider for a moment how the two squads were selected. While A-squad's selection is never detailed, Cruger personally picked the members of B-squad, put them on a squad together, and advanced at least two of them beyond the rest of the academy with no training. Cruger himself is an alien with superpowers. Lastly, consider Charlie. While she is tough in combat, she is distinctly feminine. She goes to battle with the B-squad in pigtails. She flirts eagerly with B-squad red ranger Jack. She is flippant, but always feminine, even when she's violent. Charlie clearly values her femininity and is proud of it. Being forced to hide her identity while the red ranger would have been hurtful.

User Name/Nick: Teddy

Character Name: Dante
Series: Full Metal Alchemist
Age: 400+
From When?: after she is killed by Gluttony at the end of the series.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. Dante is selfish and cruel, sacrificing countless thousands just to get what she wants - immortal life.

Abilities/Powers:
-alchemy (without a transmutation circle)
-knows more about the secrets of alchemy on her own world, but has lost the knowledge of how to apply most of them
Personality: When it comes down to what she wants, it's all about her. She doesn't think about other people or what it costs to them, and she lies and cheats shamelessly. In the body of an old lady she acted like a kind, old grandmother; in the body of a young girl, she acts head strong and cocky. The discovery of the barge has her completely stumped, as she focused for four-hundred years on living in her world and never questioned that there was only her world and the one along-side it, yet now not only does she learn there are countless others but there is also a strange form of an afterlife, the Barge. She worries about its true nature.

Re: Dante of the Deep Forest 2

[identity profile] possessedrabbit.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
History: In the 1600s she and her lover sacrificed the souls of the victims of the witch-huntings and those dying of the plague to gain the philosopher's stone. Her lover was almost killed and instinctively she transferred his soul to the body of another man, and for 400 years they used this as a method of immortality. The bodies rot prematurely, faster and faster each time they transfer to another body, and each time they leave behind pieces of their soul. Dante attempted to gain another philosopher's stone to prolong the eventual death by manipulating the sons of her lover, who had decided that he was going to stop transferring and let himself die naturally.
She used the homonculi to control the government of her world from behind the scenes. She was finally killed by one of her own homonculi whose mind she had taken to force him to eat the philosopher's stone.

Sample Journal Entry:
This is ridiculous. Stupid. Why am I here? Who brought me? This place shouldn't exist. I have never, never heard of such nonsense.

None of my books give any insight as to a vessel called the "Barge." I cannot find any reason to believe this is what is inside the Gate. This... it defies all logic. We all seem to be from different worlds, but there are only two sides to the Gate, so how can this be? I must discover what this Barge is truly meant to be. No one here will tell me the straight truth, they give me some fairy tale of morality if they're not just as confused as I.

Sample RP:
Dante glared at her room; she glared at her books, which had done nothing to explain the strange phenomena; she glared at her journals, full of hundreds of years of knowledge, that just made her more confused. She was not a woman who was used to being presented with such a problem; this was something for philosophers and priests, mulling over the afterlife, not for such an accomplished alchemist as herself. To add insult to injury, she could do no more than transfigure a spoon into a fork, and that had taken three days to accomplish. She had the concepts in her head, but she would have to go through the process of understanding and learning them all over again - four hundred years worth of genius, gone in an instant!

She could recall the moment just before her death. She clapped her hands together, and everything was there, the knowledge and concepts - though she couldn't recall what exactly she was doing, she remembered that sweet sensation. She couldn't get her mind around them now. It would take months to get up to the skill of a child, she thought glumly, never mind the things written in my journals. Is it worth even it to try?

Of course it is! She had been sitting cross-legged on the edge of her bed, but at this thought she jumped up with all the agile of Lyra's young body. The one good thing about this was the rot had vanished and for all intents and purposes she had the body of a twenty-something girl. Surely no mere ship, supernatural or not, can hold me, she thought triumphantly. I mustn't let myself give in to these treacherous thoughts!

"All I need," she said to herself softly, "is lunch and a good night's rest," and holding her head high(and rather arrogantly) she went to lunch willingly for the first time.

Utena Tenjou

[identity profile] girl-prince.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
User Name/Nick: Ros
User LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pyroslut
AIM/IM: pyrocornflakes
E-mail: rosloops at gmail dot com
Other Characters: The Master, Henry West

Character Name: Utena Tenjou
Series: Shoujo Kakumei Utena
Age: 15
From When?: From the end of the anime series, after she was stabbed by the bajllion swords and disappeared.

Inmate/Warden: Warden. Utena believes that she failed to protect and free Anthy from her role as the Rose Bride, and so she’s working as a Warden in hopes of making up for her perceived failures. Her ultimate goal is to have Anthy freed from her servitude-- and she’s totally unaware that she had actually succeeded from the get-go.

Item: Rose Signet
How Long Have You Been Here?: Several months; however, the bulk of her time has been spent recuperating from her ordeals. Due to her age, she hasn't had an Inmate yet, as she requires a younger/less vicious one than the current group offers.

Abilities/Powers: No powers. She’s a sort of idiot savant with a sword, though. She has no real training in how to use one, but is quick on her feet and has an innate aptitude for sword fighting. Also, Utena’s very athletic, and is skilled at a number of sports, particularly basketball.
Personality: Utena’s a tomboy. A super tomboy. She has a strong sense of justice and won’t put up with seeing others hurt or bullied. Overall, Utena's mouthy, courageous, and not afraid to speak her mind. She's rather clueless about a lot of things, and will sometimes just blurt something out without thinking. Also, as a tomboy, she isn’t into girly things. She enjoys wearing boys' clothes (or modified boy's clothes with booty shorts) and tends to accidentally show off her body. She doesn't really care, though, and isn't interested in attracting the eyes of others. She just dresses how she wishes to, and anybody who has a problem with it can shove off. With regards to sexuality, Utena's pretty confused and is still "exploring." She's been rather smitten with a few guys, and tends to prefer older, more worldly fellas (like Akio and Touga), but also has felt some squishy feelings for other women as well, such as Juri and, of course, there's her deep bond with Anthy. Because she’s young, Utena’s very naïve about certain things, particularly men. Also, she believes in the better nature of people, and as such, is quite trusting-- almost to a fault. This almost blind trust in others leads her foes to underestimate her, but really, her faith in others is a great strength.

History: Utena’s early life was rather tragic. When she was six years old, her parents died in a car wreck. After the funeral, she stayed behind at the church and hid in a coffin to stay with them. Shortly after, two boys slightly older than her came across the coffin, and they tried to convince her to come out. Ultimately, they failed to be the prince she needed, and gave up. However, after the boys had left, a "prince" came upon her. He released her from the coffin and dried her tears, offered comfort, and gave her a Rose Signet, to help her find him one day. Afterwards, Utena left the church and went to live with her aunt. Eventually, she was sent to school at Ohtori Academy and quickly became popular amongst the student body, particularly the girls, who all tended to have a sort of hero-worship crush on her. Despite her popularity, Utena was very clueless about a lot of basic things, like... most of the people in the Student Council.

Re: Utena Tenjou

[identity profile] girl-prince.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyway, one day, Saionji, VP of the student council, was being a total douchebag to her BFF Wakaba and posted a love letter she’d written up for everybody to see and laugh at. As such, Utena challenged him to a duel. Saionji, mistaking her for a real duelist (due to her Rose Signet), said “lawl okay” and told her where and when to meet him. So, she went over to the dueling arena—which was blocked off and on top of a giant flight of stairs—but couldn’t figure out how to open it until a drop of water touched her ring. Afterwards, she climbed a billion stairs to get to the top of the arena, and was like, ready to fight Saionji and stuff. Because she thought this wasn’t a real duel, Utena armed herself with only a wooden practice sword, while Saionji was all “hurr lame” and did some wacky shit with Anthy and pulled a sword from her chest. Despite the fact that he was using a trumped up soul-sword, Saionji still lost because he's an idiot and thought that attacking with his arms way high over his head, leaving the rose on his breast exposed and ready to be knocked off, was a smart way to do things. Upon winning the duel, Utena was thrown into a situation she was in no way prepared for. Namely, she managed to "win" herself a "fiance" in Anthy Himemiya, a quiet fellow student. Utena always figured Anthy was just Saionji's girlfriend, but it turned out she's just the Rose Bride, forced into engagement with the Rose Champion. The next day, Utena was shocked to find that Anthy had moved in with her. She wasn't really happy with this whole "engagement" thing, and was disturbed by the fact that Anthy seemed to have no will of her own. Furthermore, she saw how Saionji had (physically) abused Anthy, and so she really wasn't in the mood for this crap anymore. She began fighting in duels to protect Anthy from Saionji and the other members of the Student Council, who wanted the Rose Bridge for their own individual purposes, such as to have something eternal, prove that there are no miracles, etc.

Seriously, you don’t want "Ros’s Version," so I’m gonna cut the crap and give you a Wiki link: here you go (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary_Girl_Utena_%28story_arcs%29) and have another (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Revolutionary_Girl_Utena_characters#Main_characters).

Sample Journal Entry: I'm so bored! I can't even count the number of laps I've run around the deck now! We really need a basketball court here or something. Oi! Somebody back me up here! A friendly game of basketball, that'd be fun right? It could make the, um, "wardens" and the "inmates"-- oh, I don't like thinking of it that way-- anyway, maybe it'll loosen everybody up. Things're just too tense here, right?

Character Name: Darth Caedus aka Jacen Solo
Series: Star Wars Expanded Universe
Age: 31 [This is important; it doesn't seem likely that a 12 year old would be a warden, for instance.]
From When?: [At what point in their timeline were they brought aboard the Barge? Inmates must have just died or were about to die.] Star Wars: Legacy of the Force – Invincible – 40ABY

Inmate/Warden: Inmate…Jacen fell to the Dark Side in a rather spectacular way, bringing the Galaxy to War. Genocide, torture, nothing was too much for Jacen in his pursuit of an ordered galaxy. Murdering his own Aunt to complete his Sith Training. The only redeeming quality he could be said to have possessed was that he truly thought he was doing the right thing, like most dictators, he believed his way to be the only one. He would ensure peace, He would bring order. To do this he lost everything that had once been Jacen, his humour, his heart, His love for Tenel Ka. Mother of his child. Allana. She grew to fear her daddy. And he grew to accept the loss of her love. He died in a battle with his twin sister Jaina. And at the end he did reach out to his lover, screaming for her to protect their child. Allana, She could be why he has a chance?

Abilities/Powers: Caedus was a Sith Lord at Full Power when he was struck down by his sister. He’ll need to be stripped of most if not all of the abilities that go with that.

Personality: Caedus is cold hearted, arrogant and fully convinced he’s right in what he does. He has morals all his own and these change to suit what ‘needs to be done’. When made an inmate he will consider it a great insult. He is a Lord of the Sith and so beyond such petty things as justice. He will rally against his warden as much as he possibly can. He’s better than this, his arrogance won’t let him believe anything else. The question is however. Is Jacen Solo long since dead. At the end, his twin believed he was himself…he cared for his daughter, just for a moment, Has he a chance at redemption here? Like his grandfather Darth Vader. Could Caedus be redeemed

History: Born to a famous family. Jacen Solo, son of Han and Leia and twin brother to Jaina was raised in the spotlight, and he and Jaina along with their baby brother Anakin were no strangers to trouble, numerous kidnaps, attacks on the famous Solo Children, heirs to the Force Dynasty that followed the Skywalker name.
Jacen’s first brush with the dark side came at what was known as the Shadow Acadamy. Dark Jedi who had taken the Solo Twins, forced them to train in their methods, to fight each other.
With such a childhood and with their parents being who they were it was little wonder that all three children were skilled pilots, and quickly rose to be known as Jedi Knights. Jacen however was known for his love of animals. His gentle nature…and his very very, very bad jokes.
This all began to change during the war with the Yuzhun Vong. Even so far as to stop using the Force scared of his own power…though was convinced by his uncle and sister to not be scared of it. To come back and use his power, and he did, saving his mother with use of the Force. Jacen was taken by a woman named Vergere, not long after the death of his brother Anakin and subjected to the embrace of pain. Tortured. It took him a long time to recover and some say he never did. He travelled the Galaxy in the hope of learning more about the Force and grew closer to his childhood love Tenel Ka now Queen of Hapes. He fathered her child Allana. And then the events of the The Swarm War against the Killiks and what happened to his sister made Jacen see that the Galaxy was in need of help.
It was not long after this that Jacen met a Lady of the Sith Lumiya she told him he would be a Sith Lord, That such things were not evil. That Jacen, doing it for good reasons would be more powerful than Palpatine or Vader ever had been.
Jacen gained power in the political arena of the Galactic Alliance, becoming eventually joint Chief of State.
Every day slipping more and more, cutting himself off from his family, killing, torture, intimidation, all useful tools.
And finally he went too far. Killing Mara Jade Skywalker because she got too close to what he was.
It made him a Sith Lord. Darth Caedus. Caedus was everything Jacen Solo had not been, he was cruel and cold and calculating. And near to unstoppable.
His evil became so great that it became impossible to pull him back from the brink. It took his sister, Jaina Solo, Sword of the Jedi to bring him down.
In his last moments Jacen’s thoughts were of his family

This is only a brief history, as in typical EU fashion Jacen’s whole story is epic and huge, I’ve linked to his Wiki here. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jacen_Solo

Other Characters: Darth Caedus

Character Name: Romana
Series: Doctor Who
Age: 250 + she’s lost count somewhere
From When?: Romana has come here just as she’d given the Order to destroy Gallifrey if needed and released the Master to fight for them.

Inmate/Warden: Romana is a warden, she feels desperately guilty because of the choices she’s made as Lady President, and wonders if she by her actions in restoring the Master has dammed Gallifrey. She’s here, as much as she can to atone for what she’s done by helping others.
Item: K9. A Metallic Dog gifted to her by the Doctor upon leaving the Tardis.
How Long Have You Been Here?: Only just arrived a few days
Abilities/Powers: The powers of a Time Lord, Telepathy, advanced Intellect, Different Biology,
Personality: When travelling with the Doctor Romana grew up a lot, she idolised the doctor, but life, first in E Space and later back on Gallifrey has hardened her, she’s made hard choices for her people, and its left her somewhat wary of others. Of trusting people. Of getting too close. When she does let someone in they can see vestiges of the bubbly kind woman she once had been, the woman she very much wants to be again

History:

Romana first met the Doctor in her first incarnation. She was a young and relatively inexperienced Time Lord given the task, by the White Guardian of helping the Doctor and K-9 Mark II to locate the Key to Time. It was the Doctor who first gave her the shortened version of her name.
After the completion of the quest Romana regenerated into her second incarnation forcing her own regeneration to prevent an ancient Gallifreyan evil called Pandora from gaining power over her.
Romana and the Doctor at last parted when she decided to remain in E-Space with K-9 in order to help the enslaved Tharils regain their freedom. The Doctor and Adric left for N-Space, their native universe, leaving Romana and K-9.
She travelled E Space, giving the people the help only a Time Lord could and that’s when she felt it. A strange need…

[identity profile] notverylordly.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
And Romana remembered that’s what she’d seen when she’d looked into the untempered schism. It had been inspiring.

She’d seen a people rise to fight. Had seen herself lead them and it all became clear. Its why she’d left the Doctor.

She’d needed to grow up, she’d needed to lead her people.

She returned to Gallifrey with K9 building herself a device capable of Temporal Shift and challenged Flavia for the Presidency.

And war came, just as she predicted. Romana has suffered, twenty years captive on Skaro. Twenty years of torture by the Daleks. It changed her.

Made her willing to do anything she could to see her people win this war.

That day Romana made the choice. Bring back the Master, knowing he and he alone had a chance of winning this war by any means necessary

And using the Doctor as a failsafe. If Gallifrey lost he at least would be survive.

Its left her guilty. So when she was offered to act as Warden on the Barge she took the chance, Maybe this was her redemption.

Sample Journal Entry:

I really do want to help here. The things people have done, the people that they’ve made suffer.

I’m here for them, and I expect, selfishly, for me. Because I have done things too. Given orders, executed.

I’ve done so very much.

Perhaps this is a chance to give back.

Sample RP: [3-5 paragraphs, 3rd Person POV]

Romana had frozen in place…she could sense it, another Time Lord, two more in fact, and not just any two.

Her Doctor. The one that had once named her Noblest Romana of them all. The one she had once thought about falling in love with.

And the Master.

The feelings he invoked in her, revulsion, disgust, anger, but also a kind of fascination.

She’d met him but once after she’d made the choice to restore him and it had terrified her, never had she met someone so black hearted, so cold inside. And she’d ordered him to fight for Gallifrey.

And they were both here, what would the Doctor think of her. Would he even speak to her. She would focus on her charge. Focus on rehabilitating the poor inmate under her care.

She wouldn’t think of either of them.

Character Name: Alan Shore
Series: Boston Legal
Age: 48 [This is important; it doesn't seem likely that a 12 year old would be a warden, for instance.]
From When?: End of season 4 Boston Legal (episode aired a week or so ago!)[At what point in their timeline were they brought aboard the Barge? Inmates must have just died or were about to die.]

Inmate/Warden: Warden- Despite his sometimes devious nature, Alan does have a strong sense of moral justice. His hope is if he successfully reforms enough Inmates the Powers That Be will cure his best friend, Denny Crane, of his Alzheimer’s. [Choose One and Say Why they're this way]
Item: His Blackberry phone.[Wardens Only -- What Gives you Your Information While Here? Examples -- a compass, a book, a palm pilot, a tarot card, etc.]
How Long Have You Been Here?: He’s relatively new, only about a month by his reckoning[[Wardens Only] Wardens may say they've been aboard the Barge long enough to glean an understanding of how it works.]

Abilities/Powers: Only a damn good arguing ability! [Remember that Inmates will have reduced powers]
Personality: On the face of it Alan Shore is one devious and unfeeling bastard. He seems to view the law as more of a guideline, is belligerent and sometimes just rude to his superiors and seems to objectify women to an offensive degree. But look closer and you’ll see a man who believes very strongly in right and wrong, even if the law itself is sometimes wrong. He is fiercely loyal to his friends, in particular his closest friend, Denny and rather than objectifying women, he in fact rather worships them. For reasons that have nothing to do with money and everything to do with commitment, he lives in hotels, suffers from sleep walking and night terrors along with word salad overly anxious (although this is rare and only really happens around ex girlfriends) and a absolute terror of clowns. Beyond this not much phases Alan- he has had all sorts of clients come into his office and he is accepting of just about anything except for violence towards women and children. It takes a lot to make him angry (something which often infuriates opposing council) and he’ll take most things in his stride, no matter how surreal the situation. It helps when your best friend has Mad Cow disease. [You might include how they are going to react to all this]

[identity profile] silver-x-cross.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
History:

Alan was born to a moderately wealthy family, to a mother who was fairly distant towards him. He remembers one of the only times his mother would touch him was when he was being measured for clothes, something that he regards quite fondly. He lost his virginity at aged 14, to a friend of his mother’s, setting his path for unconventional sexual relationships. He was married and then widowed fairly young and talking about his wife is one of the few times he will ever show regret. He also finds it hard to fall in love because of how much he grieved for his wife.

He was an attorney for Young, Frutt and Berlutti. However, his questionable ethics led them to fire him. Despite his bringing the company, by his estimate, over $9 million, they gave him only $15,000 severance pay. Unimpressed with this, he sued his former employers, and won, earning himself $2.3 million. His rather devious legal maneuvering impressed Denny Crane, senior partner of Crane, Poole and Schmidt, who offered him a job.

In his new employment, Alan continued his trend of questionable methods and arguably immoral behavior. However, he also showed a loyalty and a compassion for his clients that allowed him to stayed employed. His quick wit and apparent disregard for consequences allowed him to win supposedly unwinnable cases. Or with a couple of judges, had him held for contempt of court.

Sample Journal Entry: [5-10 Sentences]

Something Shirley often asks me is, how far is too far Alan? What would make me stop this behavior and be the lawyer they wish me to be? The calm lawyer, the obedient and yet still brilliant lawyer.

Unfortunately for her, it’ll never be too far. I’ll never stop pushing to see how far I can go. Especially where Denny’s concerned. It feels as though I’ve spent the last few years protecting him, while hiding that fact from him. The truth is, I can’t sit back and watch him deteriorate. As hard as it is for me to accept, my best friend is dying, and by the end he won’t even know who I am. Perhaps this is a way to save him from that fate. So, Shirley, this is not yet too far.

Character Name: Duke Roger of Conte'
Series: Song of the Lioness Quartet (Tamora Pierce)
Age: Late 20's, early 30's. Never exactly stated in canon.
From When?: After book 2 and before his resurrection in book 3.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. Roger has died because he was trying to kill his family off to get to the Tortallian throne, and feels no remorse for doing so.
Item: n/a
How Long Have You Been Here?: n/a

Abilities/Powers: A magical "gift", colored orange. In life this was a very powerful gift, and gave him the ability to create fire, affect life (heal or make ill, etc.), hypnotize the minds of others, create curses and forge weapons and items imbued with magical properties, among other things.

Personality: The duke considers himself a pragmatist. In his estimation, emotional ties should be used as tools, and in his life, he's learned how to use them well. Upon meeting Duke Roger, one would probably describe him as warm, open and kind. This description would be horribly wrong, but Roger counts on people not seeing what he is and rather what he wishes them to see.

His calculating nature led him to plot the murder of his brother and his brother's son, and eliminate any opposition to his claim to the throne along the way. He regrets nothing, aside from his plans being exposed.

Upon finding himself on the Barge, the duke will likely believe that this is nothing more than a particularly interesting dream to entertain him while he is "sleeping."

In the back of his mind, the madness that caused him to attempt such acts as regicide is growing. His disconnect from people, is inability to feel for others is growing. His desire to rule is slowly being edged out by his desire to destroy.

[identity profile] drakiame.livejournal.com 2008-06-01 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
History: Duke Roger was born of the second son to the king. His young life was spent at the Magical Academy in the City of the Gods, where he excelled at advanced magic.

Once he'd learned all there was to learn there (at about the age of 16), he spent many years travelling the world, looking for new and more interesting powers to master. It was during these years that he formulated the plan which would eventually lead to his death.

While in Carthak, he discovered that he could send a horrible illness to the capital city, weakening his uncle's position on the throne and hopefully killing his wife and heir. His plans were not completely successful, however, because a young page who had a contract with a goddess got in the way, curing his cousin.

His foolish uncle called him back to the capital soon after, as the palace mages had found that the illness was not natural, and instead crafted by another mage. Oh, how the duke laughed. Of course he would come and investigate the source of the illness! He was also given charge of the magical education of the pages and squires training there. What an opportunity!

The palace wasn't as good a place to execute his plans as he first anticipated. Chances to eliminate his cousin slipped repeated from his fingertips, and he was increasingly aware that this page, Alan, was the cause.

He tried again and again to deal with Alan. He had the lad kidnapped, he attempted to seduce him and even offered him a place within his conspiracy to the throne. Alan foiled him every time.

On the day of Alan won his shield, he somehow broke into Roger's workroom and found evidence of Roger's plot. Roger knew that his time had come, but he tried one last time to salvage the situation. He challenged Alan to a duel.

He lost.

However, he was given time to cast a spell before he died, a spell that tied his soul to his body, so that he would not descend into the dark realm. Was his coming here an interesting side effect of this spell? Had his spell worked at all?

Only time would tell.

<b>How Long Have You Been Here?:</b> [[Wardens Only]: new arrival

<b>Abilities/Powers:</b> [Remember that Inmates will have reduced powers]:
-Extremely strong mentally and physically
-Quick thinker
-Good shot
-Multi-lingual in. French, Italian, Russian, English. And passable in Greek, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish

<b>Personality:</b> :
James Bond is smart, cunning and a womanizer.  He thinks quick on his feet and works with accuracy as a killing machine.  Being trained in the military gave him the ability to take orders without second guessing his superiors, although Bond seems to have a little complication with this area as he tends to take matters in his own hands.
He is fond of and has a weakness for women and alcohol.  In women he prefers slender girls with blue eyes and prefers especially married women over single women (according to him it makes matters less 'complicated').  And he enjoys drinking martinis (shaken, not stirred), champagne and bourbon. He also finds enjoyment in fast cars, diving, and poker.
Bond is seen as argogent and egotistical, not liking to lose or be pushed around, making him a wild card in the MI6 (and annoys M to no end).  He also has a romantic and charming side that he uses to lure women.  More often than anything, he is seen as a cold and ruthless fighter with a quick brain and a lot of luck.

<b>History:</b>
Bond was born in West Berlin, Germany on April 12,1968. His parents died in a climbing accident, so he was raised in Kent, England, by his aunt Charmain. He was kicked out of Eton for breaking curfew repeatedly and 'trouble' with one of the maids. He went to his fathers alma mater of Fettes College where he boxed for the school as a light weight and formed the first intramural judo league for the public school circuit, he attended the University of Geneva while at Fettes through an exchange program. After Fettes, he joined the Royal Navy and attends Britannia Royal Naval College at the age of 17.He joined the Special Boat Service while in the Regular Royal Navy, where he obtained the rank of Commander, and then is placed in the 030 Special Forces Unit. Bond served covertly in Iraq, Somalia, Iran, Libya and actively in Bosnia. He is then recruited by the RNR Defence Intelligence Group. Bond attended specialized courses at Cambridge and Oxford universities, earning a degree in Oriental Languages from Cambridge. He is noted to be fluent in English, French, German, Russian, and Italian, and writing passable Greek, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese at the time he joined MI6. In training, he receives exceptionally high marks for physical endurance, logic, and Psychological Ops exercises. He serves in the Royal Navy from age 17 to 31, joining MI6 at age 30, and is promoted to 00 Agent at age 38 in 2006.

Casino Royale:
After being promoted to 00 Agent, He was sent on his first mission to go after Mollaka, an international bomb maker in Madagascar Bond kills his target and blows up a part of the embassy to enable his escape. He obtains Mollaka's mobile phone and discovers that it has received an SMS from Alex Dimitrios, an associate of Le Chiffre in the Bahamas. Bond travels there, wins Dimitrios's Aston Martin DB5, and seduces Dimitrios's wife, Solange Dimitrios, who reveals that her husband is flying to Miami on business. Bond follows him to Miami, where he kills Dimitrios, and observes Le Chiffre's henchman, Carlos, leaving for the Miami International Airport. There, Bond foils Le Chiffre's plan to destroy the prototype Skyfleet airliner while managing to kill Carlos, leaving the banker with a major financial loss, since he had shorted and bought put options on Skyfleet stock, which then expired worthless.
Now that Chiffre was under pressure to get his clients money back, he sets up a high stakes poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. Hoping that a defeat would force Le Chiffre to aid the British government in exchange for protection from his creditors, MI6 enters Bond into the tournament. He meets up with Mathis, his ally in Montenegro, and Vesper Lynd, a treasury agent, who is assigned to look after his handling of the government's $10 million buy-in. As the tournament progresses, Bond loses his initial stake and becomes enraged when Vesper refuses to authorize him to buy back in because she considers his play reckless. Angered by his failure, Bond plots to assasinate Le Chiffre when he is stopped by a fellow player who turns out to be a CIA officer named Felix Leiter who is also after Le Chiffre. He believes Bond has the skill to beat Le Chiffre and offers to supply him with enough funds to re-enter the tournament in exchange for allowing the CIA custody of Le Chiffre. Back in the poker game, Bond quickly recovers his losses. Le Chiffre and his associates try to poison him but he survives because of Vesper’s intervention. He wins the tournament with a straight flush. After celebrating with Vesper, he learns she is kidnapped by Le Chiffre who uses her to lure him into an almost fatal car chase and capture. Chiffre tortures Bond for the access code to the game’s winnings and when Bond refuses to give them to him he starts preparing to castrate him when Mr. White enters and kills Le Chiffre and his associates for their failure, leaving Bond and Vesper alive.
He wakes up in a hospital later on Lake Como and orders Mathis, whom Le Chiffre identified as a double agent working for him, arrested. Bond also admits his love for Vesper and vows to quit the service before it strips him of his humanity. Accordingly, he posts his resignation to M and goes on a romantic holiday in Venice with Vesper. However, he soon learns that his poker winnings were never deposited into the Treasury's account. Realizing that Vesper has stolen them, he pursues her and members of the organization she is working for into a building under renovation. Bond shoots the floatation devices supporting the structure to gain access to the building, but as he does so the foundation starts to slowly collapse into the Grand Canal. After killing the henchmen in the building, Bond finds Vesper imprisoned in an elevator. Apologizing to him tearfully, she locks herself inside as the elevator plunges under the rising waters. Bond dives in, breaks into the elevator and pulls Vesper onto the roof of the collapsed building. Despite his efforts to revive her, she has already drowned. Mr. White, watching from a balcony, walks away with the money. He learns that Vesper had a boyfriend who was kidnapped and held for ransom by Le Chiffre and White’s organization. Bond also learns that she agreed to deliver the money (his winnings) only if they agreed to leave Bond alive as well as her boyfriend. He discovers that Vesper has left Mr. White's name and number in her mobile phone for Bond to find. White, arriving at a palatial estate near Lake Como, receives a phone call and is shot in the leg. Bond appears, gun in hand, and says, "The name's Bond, James Bond."

Sample Journal Entry: [5-10 Sentences]:
Another day, I believe. I have a feeling this one will run smoother then the last, and M won’t be angry with me, though that’s inevitable to say the least. I can’t say much about it though, just in case someone sees this that we don’t want to. I can say if all goes well in Akrotiri, I should be back in a couple of weeks. I don’t think it will take me that long, with this particular person at least. They don’t threaten me in the slightest, but they seem to threaten my employers work. We shall see how it goes. If I don’t come back in a week or two. I’ll find my way back eventually.

Sample RP: [3-5 paragraphs, 3rd Person POV]
Bond walked through the hall at a brisk pace, his shoes making the soft noise most anyone’s did when someone walked across carpet. He had him, he knew he had him. An inside man had told him he would find the man , here at this hotel, the one who‘d kill Vesper. He sped up as he got more anxious , he had him. He knew he had him this time.
Sweat poured down in torrents as he got faster, slamming his back into a wall, and pulling out his gun from within the dinner jacket he wore over a white dress shirt. He peered around the corner , then jerked back when he heard someone open a door. He heard the squeaking of wheels and the shuffling of feet, he let himself glance around and let his guard down as an old woman with the cleaning cart walked by, she nodded at him then went on. He pulled his gun back out and inched down the hallway to the door the woman had just came out of. Bond paused, hearing a television’s slight hum coming from within, and the sound of someone or something moving inside. This is it he thought as he inched around the door , slipping his foot in the crack between the door and the door facing, ready to kick it open, he inhaled then swung the door open with his foot, holding his gun out in front of him.
He examined the room. The television was going and it was cleaned out from where the woman had just got done with it. He moved slowly over to the bathroom door, kicking it open and scanning the bathtub and the sink cabinets. There was no sign of life anywhere. And this was the room , he had the right number, and the man’s personal things were still within the cabinets. That was when Bond saw the window, the sound of the “someone” had been the curtains in the breeze. He stuck his gun back into its holster and looked out the window ,spotting a small dot that was the man riding off in a car, away from the hotel. Bond cursed and went out after him.

Adam Monroe, 1/?

Character Name: Adam Monroe
Series: Heroes
Age: 300+ He’s lost count.
From When?: After season two, when he was buried alive.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. Adam tried to wipe out ninety-three percent of the Earth’s population with a virus. He also killed a few Company members, most notably being Kaito Nakamura. To further tarnish his reputation, he’s been a drunken asshole for most of the seventeenth century and just an asshole for the rest of his life.
Item: n/a
How Long Have You Been Here?: n/a

Abilities/Powers: In his prime, Adam had the ability to heal himself. He could heal himself from any wound, as long as he pulled the irritant out. For instance, if there was a stick in his leg, he would have to pull the stick out in order to heal. His healing factor wasn’t a conscious decision-if he got hurt, he just healed. Also, his healing factor gave him the power to be immortal as it constantly regenerated his cells as they died. Now, his powers are severely decreased. Adam can still heal, but it takes him a much slower time. He can heal a small cut in a matter of seconds, but anything that is greater than that takes a much longer time, the time directly proportional to the wound. While he could recover from something as dangerous as a stomachful of buckshot in theory, the strain and effort made by his body would almost if not directly kill him.
Personality: Adam is very enigmatic (or at least he tries to be). He doesn't let many people get close to him. The last person he considered a 'friend' ended up stealing his girl and blew up the tent he was in. Because of that, he mainly looks out for himself. Adam can be pleasant when wanted. It's easy for him to put on a facade. Most of the time, especially when he is with strangers, he is very sarcastic and bitter, mainly stemming from being trapped in a cell for thirty years. He is a good at tactics and easily forms plans to get what he wants. He is a great liar and a marvelous persuader.

Adam Monroe, 2/?

[identity profile] kamikazescot.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Adam takes things to heart, and rarely forgives. Because of that, he holds grudges like heck. Adam's way of solving a problem tends to be along the lines of 'hurt/kill it'. Problems for Adam mainly tend to be people. On that subject, he doesn't like people all that much. He has revealed his powers to only a few people, and has been met mainly with horror. Adam is very jaded when it comes to the world-especially love. There's a good chance that he's seen it before or, in the case of women, done it before. It didn't comfort him that he couldn't stand half of his wives and all of them died. What really pisses Adam off though is the Company. Not realizing his motives were good would only have pissed him off. But locking him in a cell? Full frontal hatred. That's one of his fears-losing to the Company. Heck, failing in general scares the man.

Adam thinks he is a god. He believes that he has to amass followers in order for him to be taken more seriously and for his plans to work. Adam is willing to do just about anything to make his plans work. After all, we're talking about a man who was ready and willing to kill 93% of the world's population. Only slightly crazy here. However, for all of his megalomania and angstyness he likes to have fun as much as the other guy. It's just hard finding something that will entertain a 400 year old with a god-complex.

When it comes to the Barge, Adam’s currently fluttering in a state of denial. He can’t die. He had died many times and then came back to life. He's a freaking immortal. Being pernamently dead just isn’t an option for someone like him. Also, he’s not so fond of the idea of a Warden prancing over him, watching his every move. Adam’s a man who enjoys his freedom.
History: Adam’s childhood and adolescence? Boring! The real fun starts after he goes to Japan-and proceeds to get stuck there. Knowing that the Japanese wouldn't take a gajin named "Adam" very seriously, he decided to create an entirely new identity and crafted Takezo Kensai. However, his new identity really didn’t do him any good as he was an alcoholic. Adam soon met a time-traveling Hiro who quickly trained Adam to be the Kensai of his childhood dreams. Cue Rocky music. Through Hiro's training, Adam obtained scrolls, defeated hordes of samurai, and was basically put through hell.

A few days after Hiro's arrival, he discovered his power after being shot by arrows, by one of Whitebeard's men. Hiro yanked them out and Adam promptly healed. Hiro explained the aspects of his power to a terrified and confused Adam. Around this time, Yaeko, the swordsmith's daughter started to actually say civil words to him. In time, he grew to love her and she loved him in return. Unfortunatly, Yaeko's love was mistaken-she loved Hiro who was masquerading as Kensai when they first met. Yaeko and Hiro found this out and kissed-with Adam secretly watching. After watching them kiss, Adam betrayed Hiro and Yaeko to White Beard, leader of a ferocious army. He left Hiro, Yaeko and Yaeko's father imprisoned, but they escaped. Hiro went to destroy Whitebeard's gun supply, but Adam was waiting for him. In an epic battle, Hiro exploded the tent where Adam was, leaving him for dead. Fortunatly, Adam soon healed himself.

Soon after, Adam moved from Japan to Germany, as in Japan he was supposed to be dead. There, he married his first wife Helene. When he was around fourty, Adam discovered that he did not age. Also around this time, Helene fled, beliving Adam to be a devil. After that, Adam moved to Italy where he found another wife, Maria. She bore him two sons. That was when Adam discovered he hated kids. He promptly left them. Around 1780, he moved to France. There, he married his third wife Fredrica in 1782. She died as a result of her lead based cosmetics.

Character Name: Tatiana Romanova
Series: 007 (From Russia With Love - Novel)
Age: 24
From When?: Post-From Russia With Love

Inmate/Warden: Inmate, although Tatiana isn't evil...she is a loyal member of an evil organisation called SMERSH.
Item: N/A
How Long Have You Been Here?: N/A

Abilities/Powers:
-Bilingual (Russian and English...speaks English with a slight accent)
-Seduction
-Smart
Personality:
Tatiana is a normal girl as far as normal is for an agent of SMERSH (Smiert Spionam - Death to Spies). As a girl and student, she had been popular with many friends and a bright outlook on life. Never being known to be cruel or mean in any way, she was always seen as the innocent angel with an extreme loyalty to her country.

She is well aware of herself and her body, being a trained dancer from childhood, Tatiana knows how to move and act to seduce a man if needed. Although she was shy with these skills at first, her commanding officer, Colonel Klebb, helped her understand how to lure men with her body.

Tatiana believes in almost evreything her superiors tell her as she believes that they know what is best for Russia and for her, but she is skeptical at times. Still, she never questions her superiors and their motives. As innocent as she is, she knows what SMERSH is and what it does, but works with cyphers and not on the line missions because of her low rank of corporal.

[identity profile] vesper-glow.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
History:
As a distant relative to the Romanov family, Tatiana (or 'Tiana' as her friends call her) grew up better off than most girls, but was taught to hate her royal blood. As a child, her dream was to become a dancer and be in the Russian Ballet. Her parents got her dance lessons and enrolled her in the best school they could, having her learn literature and language.

In her schooling, Tatiana became popular with her peers with her open and friendly personality. She was easily influenced by the media and the pressures and discomfort of the wars, driving Tatiana into the arms of communists. Her first and primary goal throughout her schooling was to be a dancer and that remained her goal until she grew an inch too tall to be a professional.

This heartache brought Tiana into her schooling and making her more focused on her studies. She still was friendly with her friends and was now trying to make up for her loss by being something better, more important. At the age of sixteen, before completing her schooling, she fell in love for the first time. They dated for a little over a year and a half before he went off and focused on his work. Since then, Tatiana had been involved with three other men (the final one as part of her mission).

Because of her outstanding marks and intelligence, Tatiana was brought to work as part of SMERSH translating English to Russian. She was loyal and worked hard, thinking that her work would one day make Russia better when SMERSH became powerful. And it was because of her beauty (she was citied as looking like a young Greta Gorbo), she was picked for this mission.

She was to seduce James Bond and the scandal was to humiliate the MI6 by exposing it. As her commanding officer, Rosa Klebb, commanded of her, Tatiana travelled to Istanbul and claimed that she was given a job there by SMERSH and wanted to escape and go to England all because she fell in love with Bond's picture. She was believed by section T there and Bond was brought to Istanbul, when she said that she would give up the Spektor cypher machine if Bond came for her.

It worked and Bond came only to have Tatiana surprise him with a visit to his hotel room two days after his visit began. She slipped into the room and hid under the covers of his bed wearing nothing but a black ribbon about her neck. She managed to seduce him and lead him to believe that she really wanted to leave for England. However, things didn't go exactly as planned as Tatiana started to develop feelings for Bond.

She managed to convince him that they should leave as soon as they can and that they should take the train to London, as Klebb planned for her as to make Bond fall in love with her on the four day journey. She claimed she wouldn't sleep unless she was snuggled up to Bond and proceeded to win his heart.

((Will finish later...about....5-6 EST))

Character Name: Peter Petrelli
Series: Heroes
Age: 27
From When?: Sometime after Powerless.

Inmate/Warden: Warden, because his brother was dying and Peter would do anything for Nathan. And he's a sucker for helping lost causes.
Item: His handy-dandy cell phone.
How Long Have You Been Here?: New arrival

Abilities/Powers: He's an empath, which means that he can mimic other people's abilities. But since his power has done nothing but get the people he loved hurt and then stranded him with no way of helping them get better, Peter is very reluctant to use his powers and so he doesn't use them unless he needs to. Ones such as rapid regeneration is a bit harder to control and he'll still heal from any wound. (I can tone it down even more if he's too powerful)
Personality: Peter has an infallible need to help people. Whether it's pleasing them, healing them, comforting them, protecting them, or trying to change their evil ways, he's practically compulsed to do it. He delights in this however. It makes him feel like he's doing something with his life when he's helping people.

Peter is rarely without a smile and comforting words.

He's ruled by his insecurities. This much is obvious to anyone who spends more then five minutes around him. He lets the opinions of others dictate his actions, especially when it comes to his older brother. Nathan's word is like law in Peter's world. It's very rare for him to do anything without Nathan's approval and when such a rare occurrence does happen, it's for one damn good reason. Like a cheerleader from Texas.

Peter has an eternally innocent soul, believing the world to be a different place then it really is. Reality has never quite reached him fully and it shows in the way he acts. He acts like a child. He doesn't think his plans through and often runs head first in them, uncaring of the consequences. But the second anyone calls him on this, and treats him like a child, he gets defensive.

Re: Application 2/3

[identity profile] sweetbelle07.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
History: Peter was born in late 1979 to a prominent New York lawyer and his wife, Angela. The couple already had one son and for the majority of his childhood, Peter felt like he was living in his older brother's shadow. Which was hardly the case when you asked anyone but his father who continually compared his younger sons actions to his older's despite the fifteen year age gap between the two boys.

Peter attended private schools for his entire childhood where he spent most of his time in the back of the classroom dreaming or with the latest issue of a comic book. He was a quiet kid, talking only when he had to or when he was with people that he felt comfortable around and it wasn't until his teen years came around and his typical rebellion sat in, that he really started to get vocal, especially about his beliefs.

He graduated from high school with no special awards and entered Columbia University with the open major option. After a semester of that, he switched to a pre-nursing major.

And caused a lot of problems within his family because of it. He didn't want to be a doctor, a profession that his father would've paid for, for his own reasons. So Peter chose to go it alone. He was forced to take a year off after another semester though, to earn the money he needed to continue with his education.

Peter eventually graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in nursing and was immediately accepted into the nursing school there.

Soon after graduating from nursing school, Peter started to have these dreams. Ones where he could fly and he would wake up, swearing that they were real because they were so vivid. When his foot hovered for a split second, actually hovered one morning, he became convinced that he could fly and turned to his brother for help. After a fall off a rooftop and a pesky rumor that he was suicidal, Peter came to realize that he could fly because Nathan could and that he was merely mimicking the ability. Some stuff with a cheerleader in Texas happened and Peter almost died because of it, only he'd gained a new aility, one that allowed him to heal from any injury. That came in handy when he absorbed the wrong kind of power, one that was too much for him to handle after a fight with his arch nemesis, Sylar.

It was thanks to Nathan that Peter didn't destroy the city of New York. Though he did practically melt Nathan's face off and about two seconds after he got Nathan to a hospital, he was kidnapped by an organization that called itself The Company. They tracked special people and locked up the ones that they thought were dangerous. Like Peter.

Peter was detained for four months before he escaped with a man named Adam who claimed that he was over four hundred years old. The two split up for a little while, during which Peter lost his memory because of that meddling Haitian but he got it back and met up with Adam again in Montreal. The two continued their quest to find the virus that could kill most of the people on the planet. Peter was under the impression that they were going to destroy it, not release it like Adam wanted and it was only after Nathan talked him down, did Peter realize the error of his ways.

Adam was stopped. The virus was destroyed.... and then his brother was shot in the middle of a press conference. Without any magical blood and having no idea where the cheerleader was and running out of time, Peter made a deal to restore Nathan's life. And it landed him on the barge.

Character Name: Elizabeth "Liz" Sherman
Series: Hellboy/B.P.R.D. (comics)
Age: Early 30s (her birth date is in 1962, but the point at which she comes to the barge doesn't have a date attached)
From When?: B.P.R.D. - Night Train (please see her history for more information)

Inmate/Warden: Warden. Liz is one of the good guys. Her death was an accident, and she's not ready to die yet.
Item: An old cameraphone.
How Long Have You Been Here?: Not very long, maybe a day or two.

Abilities/Powers: Liz is a pyrokenetic, but has no other powers.

Personality: Liz is not very trusting, but loyal once she does trust you. She is sarcastic and often morose. While there are still things that she is afraid of, being a member of the B.P.R.D. has shown her so much that many things won't shock her.

Generally speaking, she gets on better with guys, and has a problem with authority. Bullies piss her off.

Liz will not be too surprised to be aboard the Barge. Even if she is surprised by it, she will play it off as if it's no big deal. Freaking out about strange stuff has always earned her teasing from her team mates, so she has learned to hide her emotional reactions to them.

[identity profile] drakiame.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
History:
Liz was born on April 15th, 1962. Her life was pretty normal until she was about 11, when a boy in her neighborhood began to tease her about her pigtails. Like any budding pyrokenetic would, she burned down her entire block. There were 32 casualties, including her entire family.

Suddenly an orphan, Liz was thrust into foster care. After a short time, though, it became clear that she was emotionally disturbed by her ordeal, and when the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense heard her story, they decided to take her in.

While living within the compound, she eventually mastered her powers, and became an agent for the BPRD instead of a ward.

She spent the next several years working the hard jobs with Hellboy (a demon summoned by nazis and raised by BPRD) and Abe Sapien (a half-man half-fish who had been in cryostasis since Abe Lincoln was assassinated).

On one of these jobs, the trio found an inert homunculus. Liz was still struggling with her part in the death of her family, and feeling as though her adopted family (Abe and Hellboy) would be better off without her and her dangerous lack of control, so she attempted to revive the homunculus by forcing all of her fire into his power jack.

Roger was revived, but Liz fell into a coma. Eventually, Roger was able to revive her. After being given this second chance, Liz realized that instead of suicide, she should learn better control so that she might help her friends instead of leaving them.

Liz spent two years in a convent mastering her powers further. Only when she was confident with her control did she return.

While investigating a ghost train that was terrorizing a man in the Midwest, her soul was drained, and she was on the brink of death. At this point, she was given an opportunity to come aboard the Barge to earn herself yet another chance at life.

Character Name: Rube Sofer
Series: Dead Like Me
Age: [This is important; it doesn't seem likely that a 12 year old would be a warden, for instance.] Forty-nine or so.
From When?: [At what point in their timeline were they brought aboard the Barge? Inmates must have just died or were about to die.] Rube met his untimely death in the early 1920's, and spent the next ninety years as the "undead" middle-management for a group of grim reapers. He joins the barge when his quota of reaped souls has been met, and he has "moved on".

Inmate/Warden: [Choose One and Say Why they're this way] Warden
Item: [Wardens Only -- What Gives you Your Information While Here? Examples -- a compass, a book, a palm pilot, a tarot card, etc.] Post-it notes. (Negotiable).
How Long Have You Been Here?: [[Wardens Only] Wardens may say they've been aboard the Barge long enough to glean an understanding of how it works.] Three months.

Abilities/Powers: [Remember that Inmates will have reduced powers] None.

Personality: [You might include how they are going to react to all this]

Rube tries to be the patent father-figure. He attempts to take people under his wing and be a mentor...so long as his patience holds out. Once he has been taken for granted or ignored (fucked-over, in his words) one too many times, his attitude becomes that of one washing his hands of the whole situation. A few days of sulking and stewing, and he's back to the bull, trying again to be a guide and friend.

His motto on helping others is that it's not his problem, even if he was the one to create the problem in the first place. He believes solving your own problems builds character - at least, that's what he tells people. He is admittedly a problem-solver, and usually winds up being the one to clean up the mess others leave behind.

He has a store of wisdom that he, himself, rarely follows, and, though of very poor birth, loves the finer things in life. He is frank and honest with his advice, but often through his self-crafted veneer, the old Rube shows through - a man with a temper, who lived a hard life and a harder afterlife, who tries very hard to care, but can't manage to become emotionally attached. He stays on the sidelines, never really doing more than slightly interacting in the lives of those he knows, consciously trying not to become more than an afterthought to the people he meets.

When it comes to work, he tries to ensure that others are by-the-book, and rarely breaks the rules himself.
It takes a lot to rile him up, and when someone finally pisses him off enough, there are no warning signs before he verbally tears them to shreds. In the past, the feeling that a bond has been severed and a friend has been lost has been enough to make his "employees" rethink their actions and try to make things right again. There's no telling how people on the barge would react to him.

He loves food, and fancies himself a connoiseur of fine wines and dishes, though he'd settle for a waffle and burnt coffee on any given day.

He rarely, if ever, talks about his life.

Re: Application 2/?

[identity profile] moxispilot.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
History:
Born to no-account parents in a slum of New York, Rube's childhood and young adult years were marked by dead-end trades and a hungry belly. Like many children from his time, he never completed school, having found that the almighty dollar had more drawing power than a polished education. He made no mark on history during that time - he was just another dirty face in a sea of poor, half-starved urchins hawking newspapers and shining shoes.

In the early 1920's, Rube's life had not taken a turn for the better in any sense of the word; he lived in an impoverished neighborhood with his wife and young daughter. Having tried various ways to make ends meet, he finally resorted to lawbreaking.

One early morning, he put a revolver in his pocket and kissed his daughter goodbye, then walked out of his shabby flat to die in an ill-fated bank robbery...

...and filled a quota.

There is an unspecified number of souls which muchs be reaped by one who is "undead". When a quota has been filled, a Reaper moves on to his final destination, and the last one to be reaped takes his or her place.

Thus, Rube began his ninety-year career as a lackey for Death.

The job was simple: pop the soul before the body was killed. Popping a soul consisted of merely touching the marked individual. Once Death had occurred, guide the soul to their final destination.

He was quite disappointed to discover that he couldn't fly, or become invisible at will. In fact, he found that Reapers performed a public service...for free; the only perks were an inability to die and a fast rate of healing. If he wanted to eat, he had to have money. If he wanted money, he had to work for it.

Or steal for it.

Rube discovered that he had absolutely no compunctions against taking the monetary leavings of the recently deceased, and, adding this to money he had stashed from robberies on the living side of life, he made himself a small fortune.

Once and again, he would try to send a packet of money to his widow. It wouldn't be until the latter portion of his career that he would discover the packets had never reached her; his wife had died of typhoid fever not long after his own death, and his daughter was lost in the wide world.

In the late 1950's, Rube was "promoted" to middle-management, and became the lucky one whose task it was to dole out the assignments.

Every day, a manilla envelope was slipped under his door; inside was a list of names, places, and times for every person within his sector that would die of unnatural causes - murders, suicides, accidents. These names were handed out to members of his cell of Grim Reapers. In later years, he would begin making use of that wonderful invention that was the Post-it note to deliver the information to his employees.

In 2004, his assignment led him to cross paths with and reap an unlikely mark: his daughter, Rose. Though she was old and nearly blind, Rosie recognized Rube when he came for her. He wasn't quite the same after that.

He never met his "employer", but, in early 2006, he filled his own quota and was replaced.
However, in an uncanny echo of his early warnings to his employees ("They're going where we can't follow."), he discovered he was unable to move on. He can't say for certain whether it was his own decision not to continue to his final destination, or by choice of the higher-ups, but he has now been promoted - or laterally transferred, by his reckoning - to a position as Warden on The Barge.

He doesn't know if this is the next step toward the afterlife, or if something has gone very, very wrong with his journey.

Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) pt1

User Name/Nick: Yuna.
User LJ: [livejournal.com profile] yunafire

Other Characters: None.

Character Name: Peter Pettigrew (aka Wormtail)
Series: Harry Potter (films; don't know the books)
Age: 35.
From When?: After the events of Goblet of Fire.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. He betrayed the Potters to Tom Riddle (aka Voldemort), which in turn lead to their death. He killed Cedric Diggory and resurrected Voldemort. (Note: The person who has Ron on hold would like to be a warden for Peter).
Item: N/A.
Abilities/Powers: Peter is an Animagus, or rather, a wizard/witch who can change into an animal form at will, whilst still able to think as a human. Peter's form is that of a rat. The animal form is not chosen by the wizard, but determined by their personality and inner traits; a reflection of their inner nature.

Personality: Befitting his alternate form, Peter Pettigrew is quite secretive, crafty, resourceful, and prone to hiding when danger is near. He's tends to hero-worship those he considers better than him, no matter the aspect (looks, courage, magic, etc). As such he is also easily influenced by those around him, allying himself with whomever is the strongest. Peter never considers himself brave nor beautiful, and as such never believes he is worthy of compliments.

History: (ooc note: shamelessly copied, though edited a smidge, from Wormtail's HP wiki entry (http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Peter_Pettigrew). He's not exactly a fleshed-out character in the movies, after all, and I've never read the books.)

Peter began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and soon became friends with James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black, fellow Gryffindors. He was not as skilled a wizard as his friends, and idolized them for their popularity and talent.
He, James, and Sirius soon discovered Remus to be a werewolf, but they did not abandon him. Instead, they spent years learning how to become Animagi so that they could accompany Remus during his transformations. Peter's Animagus form was a rat, from which was derived his nickname "Wormtail".

After graduating from Hogwarts, Pettigrew and his friends joined the Order of the Phoenix and fought against Lord Voldemort during the First Wizarding War. At some point, Pettigrew began working as a double agent for Voldemort, apparently out of pure fear. He was appointed the Secret-Keeper for James and Lily Potter when they went into hiding after a prophecy was made about their infant son, Harry, being the one with the power to defeat the Dark Lord. On Halloween night, Pettigrew betrayed his friends, and Voldemort killed the Potters.

Sirius was the only one to know Pettigrew was their Secret-Keeper. Furious and devastated, Sirius pursued Pettigrew, wanting revenge. When he closed in on him, Pettigrew screamed that Sirius had betrayed the Potters for everyone to hear. Peter then blew up the street, and faked his own death by cutting off a finger and leaving it behind as he transformed into a rat and fled.

Pettigrew went into hiding as Scabbers the rat, coming into the possession of Ron Weasley. It was clear Scabbers was an extraordinary rat; he was unusually old for a rat of his species, which had a life expectancy of three years, yet the Weasley family owned him for twelve.

Years later, Sirius escaped from Azkaban. Scabbers began to thin dramatically and go bald out of fear. Ron assumed this to be due to Hermione's cat, Crookshanks. Scabbers was eventually unmasked by Sirius and Remus, via spell that forces Animaguses out of their animal shape, though fled before Sirius could enact his revenge.

Peter returned to the only master he knew to serve: Lord Voldemort, without whom he would have nowhere else to go. When Harry Potter was delivered to the graveyard of Little Hangleton, Pettigrew killed Cedric Diggory on Voldemort's orders and performed the ritual to restore Voldemort to physical form, reluctantly sacrificing his hand. As a reward for his assistance, Voldemort replaced the hand with a silver one.

Character Name: Charlie Prince
Series: 3:10 to Yuma (2007)
Age: 27; the character isn't given an age, but his actor was 27 at the time

From When?:Right before Ben Wade shoots him.

Inmate/Warden: Inmate; Charlie is not a nice guy
Abilities/Powers: Charlie is skilled with firearms, specifically (but not limited to) pistols, and any manner of highway robbery. He's a pretty well established and feared bandit in his canon, so it'd be expected that any old timey criminal deviousness he'd be fairly skilled at (though being from the 1800s would limit the extent of his knowledge of MODERN crime).

Charlie Prince 2 (Forgot to label the first one)

[identity profile] katiria.livejournal.com 2008-06-08 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:Charlie has a short fuse and an undying devotion to his boss, Ben Wade. He is incredibly loyal to Wade, doing everything in his power to locate and free the man when he is captured by authorities. When Wade is present, Charlie acts as he right hand man, giving the men the orders Ben issues him, dolling out their cash, misleading authorities, and whatever else his leader can think of for him. He doesn't always see eye to eye with Ben, such as when he decides to leave the Pinkerton who just insulted Charlie alive or when Ben decides to stick around to sleep with a woman, even though the law is closing in. In both case, however, Charlie doesn't push the issue; what Ben says goes. The only signs of real concern Charlie shows in the film are tied into Ben as well. It seems that Charlie cares strongly for his boss, much more so than any one else. It may be hero worship or something more, though I'll comment on this particular matter more in the “special notes” section.

Charlie's temper, however, is something that anyone else crossing his path has to deal with. Charlie seems to have two type of anger. The first is a loud, vocal expression. He will scream murder and issue threats, as well as stomp about aggressively and shoot everyone. With the other, the silent type, Charlie will calmly speak as he sets fire to a coach or shoots a man in the chest. His tone may be soft, but the listener can still tell he's unhappy.

When Charlie is in good spirits, he seems to be somewhat cocky, mirthful, and a bit odd in how he holds himself, though it's hard to pinpoint how. He seems to enjoy whiskey (He drinks it on a few occasions throughout the film), enjoy tricking people, and enjoy being affiliated with Ben Wade.

Character Name: Mano
Series: Legion of Super-Heroes
Age: 40
From When?: From just after Legion of Super-Heroes #121

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. While Mano finally realized that attacking
McCauley Industries wasn't the way to avenge his world's death, he never
actually had the chance to attain closure. Thus he'd still be in need of
redemption.
Item: Not applicable
How Long Have You Been Here?: Just arrived, after his death at
Takron-Galtos.

Abilities/Powers: Mano's most infamous power is disintegration;
the energies are stored within his body and released through his right
hand. It's been greatly reduced now; a 100 meter diameter half-sphere is
his maximum effect. While he doesn't need the gauntlets to hold back his
power, he still wears them out of habit. He can either cleanly
disintegrate an object, or shatter it into a shrapnel wave directed away
from him; a variation of this allows his to shatter the ground under a
foe, like a mini-earthquake. The disintegration powers within his body
act as his immune system, destroying just about any non-mystic poison,
drug, or disease within seconds. However, this also means that he can't
use any medicines; cybernetic implants would also be destroyed, and
surgery is very problematic. Mano can survive with little or no oxygen
and food, by passively absorbing UV and other radiations; this even
allows him to survive deep space, since the cosmic radiation fuels him
even more. His eyes are also adapted (like all of his species) to see
through smoke and thick fogs.

As for his skills, Mano is a highly experienced soldier (nearly 30 years
of combat training and experience) from a world that has spent centuries
in civil war. His specialty is demolitions, as that was judged the best
training to work in conjunction with his super-powers. Mano is also
skilled in infiltration, security systems, and weapons repair. He is
self-taught in toxicology, as he needed that information to prove that
the chemical weapons were more a threat to his own people, than to the
enemy. Because of not being able to use painkillers, he's been trained
in pain resistance; it doesn't reduce the damage taken, but he can work
despite some damage. When he's not been in battle, he's studied
literature from a few other worlds, having a fondness for Shakespeare
and classical mythology. Mano hasn't had the time or opportunity to
develop more interests... but that will likely change now.

Character App: Mano (part 2)

[identity profile] lastsonofangtu.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Mano is driven by a need to see justice done; it is
his methods that put him on the side of the villains. In his rage he has
killed innocent workers that just happened to be at McCauley's
facilities, and the Science Police that sought to protect them. He
nearly killed the Legion of Super-Heroes as well, believing they were
also McCauley's minions. But his rage is tempered by melancholy; not
only the memories of the abuse he'd suffered on Angtu, but also the
knowledge that in his anguish, he managed to destroy the evidence that
would have proved MacCauley's guilt. While he wishes to find true
friends, and perhaps even love, Mano fears that his powers are an
obstacle to this; who would ever trust someone capable of killing with a
touch?

History: Mano was born in 2959 on Angtu, a world on the edge of
the Milky Way galaxy near the borders of the Khund Empire. Its people
lived under a thick atmosphere toxic to most other species... not that
most of the Angtuans even noticed there were other worlds. For them, the
War was all; a centuries-long conflict between the global empires, that
required combat training from childhood to survive. This had gone
unnoticed by most of the galaxy, as Angtu had never attacked other
worlds. That is, until a McCauley Industries probe found Angtu...

McCauley Industries was the most successful weapons firm in the galaxy,
beginning in this field even before the United Planets was officially
founded. They became the main supplier to the UP Militia, and they saw
Angtu as a rich market for their goods. Unbound by -- and uncaring of --
the UP's laws concerning weapons of mass destruction, massive numbers of
chemical weapons were sold to Angtu. Mano was mutated in the womb by the
chemical exposure; changed from the normal white-skinned appearance to a
gaunt form with black skin and a strange glowing disk on his right palm.
His mother died in childbirth; his father had already died from the
poisons months earlier. So Mano was sent to a state-run orphanage.
No-one wanted him because of his mutations, and the other children saw
him as competition for the food rations. Mano had to learn to fight even
earlier than normal, just to survive.

In his tenth year, the energy nimbus formed around his head and hands; a
harmless release valve for the disintegration energies starting to
emerge within him. The military took him in, training Mano for the
unique battle tactics prepared for the emerging Angtuan mutants.
Finally, Mano believed he'd found his purpose... once he proved to be a
loyal defender of his empire, surely his people would accept him as an
equal? By 14, he was already into his first tour of duty (once the
chemical-impregnated polymers were invented to insulate others against
his power). Mano fought valiantly, though his efforts received little
reward; most still considered him a freak, unworthy of the privileges of
a normal Angtuan. But what he did gain, through bits of contraband
data-recordings and through favors owed him, was knowledge... knowledge
that there were other worlds, worlds that lived in peace. But while Mano
dreamed of a life outside the war, he finally had to put those dreams
aside.

As Mano finally rose through the ranks, he discovered that McCauley's
agents were selling weapons to the other factions, as well. He tried to
warn his government of this duplicity, but could never seem to get
enough evidence to convince them. So Mano started studying the chemical
weapons, and found a terrible truth; the chemical weapons were combining
with the natural toxins of Angtu's atmosphere in uncontrolled reactions,
forming far deadlier toxins than before. But the knowledge came too
late; the rising death toll from the poisons disrupted food and medical
supplies, causing further deaths... and the chain of command changed too
quickly as people died, to stop the warfare.
