TLV - Potential Application Discussion
Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!
THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.
Please take the following into consideration when posting or replying here:
1. Mods are the final decision makers. Even if you get great feedback, player approval does not substitute mod approval. Even if a mod replies to your comment here telling you that they'd love to see the character and to go ahead and app, they're not making a promise to auto-approve your app once it's submitted.
2. This post is for constructive discussion. Even if your gut reaction is a simple "OMG YES" or "HELL NO", providing details and reasons for that reaction will always be more helpful to the player. In addition, please remain polite and civil at all times. Even if you take issue with a prospective character or the direction the player wants to take them in, flaming, insults, etc. will not be tolerated.
3. Avoid too much pre-plotting. Remember that this is all still theoretical, and the characters posted here haven't been apped or accepted into the game yet.
4. Don't take this personally. If people have concerns about the suitability of your character, or are unsure about some aspect of your comment (ex. the warden/inmate justification), it's not an attack on you or your RPing.
Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Please do try to hit on all the points asked about here - this is all stuff we'd like you to keep in mind before you apply, and going into at least some level of detail will help spark meaningful discussion.
The Final Fantasy VII Compilation cast is at cap, and FFVII Compilation apps are currently closed. Discussing FFVII Compilation characters here is still welcome!
Matthew Swift & The Blue Electric Angels | A Madness of Angels
Character name: Matthew Swift & The Blue Electric Angels
Series: A Madness of Angels
Warden or inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements? Yes
Do you think they will be active and interact with others? Yes
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out? Yup, definitely
Why do you want them? Matthew I think would be particularly interesting in this game - he's someone who could easily have been classified as an inmate, and knows it. And while he will want to help rehabilitate inmates, he's also going to be someone who will question the very nature of this whole setup - and whether he has the right to be a 'warden' over anyone.
Potential concerns: So, I don't have any concerns regarding character suitability with Matthew. But he does have Weird Magic Shit going on, which I would need to work out how to approach.
There's a full write-up of his powers here, but in short - Matthew is an urban sorcerer, which means his power is drawn from cities. Basically is very much a location based magic, that draws from the surrounding environment. It means what he can and can't do is very much determined by what's around him. In a city, he can do all sorts of ridiculous stuff. In a forest, he is useless.
Currently, I'm thinking that he will have some ability to use his magic on the barge, but the barge's own magic / power will act as a limiter, as well as the fact that the barge just...isn't exactly the environment is magic is most suited to.
There is also the fact that Matthew is also semi-possessed / mind merged with an entity called the Blue Electric Angels, who are basically a conglomerate of telephone spirits.
Yes, Matthew is Weird.I'm not sure if this should give them any influence over the network - justifications could be made either way I think.Re: Matthew Swift & The Blue Electric Angels | A Madness of Angels

Re: Matthew Swift & The Blue Electric Angels | A Madness of Angels
Well, in some ways ‘controlling / being aware of the setting’ is kinda how his magic works, hence me wondering about potential limits here. I can definitely think of things he could potentially do that could cause issues (like being able to magic open locks or manipulating systems so they think Matthew is allowed to use them, etc etc). But it does also kinda come with its own in-built power limiter, since it's so location-dependent.
Considering the nature of the Barge as well, I would think from Matthew's perspective it would make sense for him to perceive / view it as having powerful magical defenses that he can't necessarily break though.
