TLV - Potential Application Discussion (Old Form)
Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!
THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.
However, there are some rules.
1. Mods are the final decision makers. So, a lot of people love your character? Got great feedback? But then-- whaaaat?-- you post your app and it's REJECTED? GASP! Sorry, approval here does NOT substitute mod approval. Do NOT use this thread as basis for whining at the mods if your character is rejected. If you do, this thread is getting shut down. (PS: This rule applies EVEN IF ONE OF THE MODS GIVES YOU GOOD FEEDBACK IN THIS THREAD)
2. No content-less posts. I don't want to see any "OMG YES!" or any "HELL NO"s. You have to provide reasons. This post is for constructive discussion.
3. No flaming. This kinda goes with the above. If you think the character is fine but the player can't pull it off, BE CONSTRUCTIVE and don't insult the player.
4. BE HONEST. Speaks for itself. You think a character would be a terrible fit? Then don't say "Oh, it'll be wonderful!"
5. No plotting. A lot of times, people get all excited about making up plots for characters who aren't even in the game yet (and who MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED), leaving those who are in the game with nothing to do with... well, nothing to do. It's distracting and the excitement over "what-ifs" diverts too much from the actual game.
6. Don't take this personally. You do not equal your (potential) character. If everybody thinks it's a lousy character who wouldn't fit, it's NOT an attack on you or your RPing.
Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Yes, some of the questions seem stupid, but these are things we'd like you to keep in mind BEFORE you apply for a character.
HAVE FUN.

The Narrator / Tyler Durden
Series: Fight Club
Warden or Inmate: Warden (Narrator as main personality)
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yep, I think so
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Yes
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Active! Tyler's a nosy bugger.
Why do you want them?: Because I think they're a really interesting character and because the canon is so awesome. And the Narrator is Warden material, while Tyler is a total Inmate. It would be great. (Oh, and Tyler's interaction with Prefect would be hilarious, due to his violently anti-consumerist leanings!)
Potential Concerns: Um, the split-personality, essentially I'd be playing two characters. Not sure how well that would come through, because I've never really played a character like that, especially in logs...

Re: The Narrator / Tyler Durden
Myself, I think Tyler icons should be fine, but restricted to journal-use only, while it's just Jack icons for logs (and since there are a few pics of him looking Tyler-like, it should be easy to have a couple set aside for Tyler's presence in logs).

Oh man, I was going to wait to app him because I have studying to do, but I think I'm going to do it today. Bad Jessi.
Re: The Narrator / Tyler Durden
That said, from what I've seen of your RPing, I think you could pull him off!
However, which point in canon would you take him from? Tyler's essentially "integrated" back into Jack at the end of both the book and movie-- also, would you be basing your canon on the book or the movie (not that there's much difference, aside from the hole in his cheek in the book, and the ending)? And yeah, the log thing is something to really keep into consideration. Obviously, the fact that they're the same person would be easy to hide in the journals, but the logs... It could work out like in the film/book, where everybody just thinks that Tyler Durden's a weird guy, and that his behavior is all part of some profound 'test'. I'm not sure how it'd work.
Re: The Narrator / Tyler Durden
I'd be mixing the canons a bit, but probably mainly book-based. At the end of the book, Tyler's not "dead" like in the movie. There are hints of him still speaking to Jack in the novel and so, it's more like Tyler's been repressed and is no longer a dominant personality, see? The logs, yeah, that's really what I'm worried about I guess. I think having him as one or the other in logs would work, but yeah. It'd be a bit of guesswork at the start.

Re: The Narrator / Tyler Durden
I'm working on it now -- though it's a conversation between the two of them, so idk. I love the characters so much, though, so I think I'll be giving it a try anyhow!
