TLV - Potential Application Discussion (Old Form)

POTENTIAL APPLICATION DISCUSSION

Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!

THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.

However, there are some rules.

1. Mods are the final decision makers. So, a lot of people love your character? Got great feedback? But then-- whaaaat?-- you post your app and it's REJECTED? GASP! Sorry, approval here does NOT substitute mod approval. Do NOT use this thread as basis for whining at the mods if your character is rejected. If you do, this thread is getting shut down. (PS: This rule applies EVEN IF ONE OF THE MODS GIVES YOU GOOD FEEDBACK IN THIS THREAD)
2. No content-less posts. I don't want to see any "OMG YES!" or any "HELL NO"s. You have to provide reasons. This post is for constructive discussion.
3. No flaming. This kinda goes with the above. If you think the character is fine but the player can't pull it off, BE CONSTRUCTIVE and don't insult the player.
4. BE HONEST. Speaks for itself. You think a character would be a terrible fit? Then don't say "Oh, it'll be wonderful!"
5. No plotting. A lot of times, people get all excited about making up plots for characters who aren't even in the game yet (and who MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED), leaving those who are in the game with nothing to do with... well, nothing to do. It's distracting and the excitement over "what-ifs" diverts too much from the actual game.
6. Don't take this personally. You do not equal your (potential) character. If everybody thinks it's a lousy character who wouldn't fit, it's NOT an attack on you or your RPing.

Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Yes, some of the questions seem stupid, but these are things we'd like you to keep in mind BEFORE you apply for a character.

HAVE FUN.

The Ninth Doctor

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: The Doctor (NUMBAH NINE)
Series: Doctor Who
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Very.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: ABSOLUTELY ACTIVE.
Why do you want them?: Because the Ninth Doctor is a character I've played before, genuinely enjoy playing, and I've been looking forward to the opportunity to play him with an active Rose and Jack.
Potential Concerns: ...I already play the Master. Which would make it awkward. Also, I already play Major West, so I'd be playing MY OWN TWIN AND MY OWN ARCH-ENEMY. Plus, I fear seeing a Doctor would discourage other Doctor RPers, and I'd REALLY like to see a Doctor who isn't... me.

Re: The Ninth Doctor

[personal profile] acid_rayne 2008-10-22 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of the forums I've seen that character on, seem to have simultaneous different incarnations of them, so, don't think discouragement would be a problem.

I do see your own simultaneous portrayal of the Master as a very unavoidable obstacle, however!

The Hitchhiker

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Hitchhiker (NO REAL NAME)
Series: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (i.e. the real one, not the remake, so NO I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE WOMAN WHO SHOOTS HERSELF)
Warden or Inmate: Inmate
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: In a... weird way. I don't think he'd use the journals much at all, but he does like to interact with others... in his own insane, eager-to-please (and eager-to-maim D:) way.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: I'd make him active in them, although it'd be a challenge to think up how he'd react to them.
Why do you want them?: He's my favorite character from my favorite horror movie. It'd be a challenge to play somebody who's THAT NUTS but pretty incapable of hiding it, and I really, really love the Slaughterhouse/Sawyer family dynamics. Of course, the family wouldn't be in the game, so there's a problem. But I find him an intriguing character that I want to explore some more.
Potential Concerns: He's a bit of an obscure character with no real background, no name, he's insane, I can't see him as redeemable, and he can barely get along with anybody who's not in his family. He likes to move around a lot (presumably), which he wouldn't be able to do on the Barge, and he probably wouldn't use the journals much. Also... he's a cannibal.

Since he's a weird character and most people only know about Leatherface, here's one of Hitchhiker's scenes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-73BUDHcCCc) so you know who the hell I'm talking about.

Re: The Hitchhiker

[identity profile] onderhaus.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think the only problem you presented was that you weren't sure he was literate, but given his obscue background, I think you could make it work.

I also think he'd be a great inmate - a real challenge for his warden.

Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto)

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto)
Series: X-Men (film)
Warden or Inmate: Warden, though morally grey.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Despite his hatred of 'homo-inferior', yes he would interact. I think the journals would amuse him and I can imagine his curiosity over this strange boat of souls.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Yup on both.
Why do you want them?: I played him before, last year or some time ago. His personality would be fun to explore and likewise, how long his neutral attitude towards humans could remain 'I'll tolerate you, and not try to kill you'.
Potential Concerns: His entire philosophy is based on the terrors he experienced through the Holocaust so he's got something of a Hitler complex. His film history is intentionally vague beyond the fact that he was a co-founder of Xavier's school and helped recruit students. Beyond that and the events in film, there's not much to go on unless I dipped into comic history. Which I'd hate to do.

He also has kids in movieverse. There's another bit for your history. You can probably infer from there, given his age, how old they are, and that his backstory with Magda likely took place.

Pyro

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Pyro
Series: X-Men (I'd either do 616 Pyro or Evolution Pyro)
Warden or Inmate: Warden (possibly inmate for Evo). 616 Pyro redeemed himself before his death; he's gone full circle, so there's no reason for him to be an Inmate. Evolution Pyro, ehh, he's a harder sell either way.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: God yes
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Very active
Why do you want them?: I've played Pyro for uhhh... what, 8 years now? He's the easiest muse for me to slip in and out of, my favorite character from... well, frankly, ANYTHING ever. I enjoy the depth his character's been given in the comics, and I love the humor of Evolution Pyro. Plus, when I play Evo Pyro, I get a huge kick out of HOW FUCKING ANNOYING HE CAN BE.
Potential Concerns: I've played him for 8 years, sooo there's possible burnout (LOL PYRO? BURNOUT???). Also, not sure how Evo Pyro would fit. I think he'd be a funny Warden, but not a GOOD Warden. I can't see him as much of an Inmate, though. Pyro's a sort of gray character. I don't know which Pyro I'd pick-- if I should even play him after playing him in form or another for SOOOO LONG.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd even be apping him for fun, or because I get kind of possessive over the character and would get annoyed (even if I don't mean to!) if somebody else applied for him-- well, unless they did him well. Then I'd actually be happy. And that is not the proper reason to apply for a character. I know I WOULD have fun with him even if I did app him for the wrong reasons, but uh... yeah.

Re: Pyro

[identity profile] stayandgloat.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally would reccommend against playing someone you've been playing for so long mainly because of burnout, but this is a personal thing more than a well thought out point on whether he should be on the barge.

Honestly, I personally think that if you can justify him being there and if you love playing him then your reasons for bringing him on aren't that big a deal. We really don't need to be that noble over rpg, and he honestly sounds like he'd be a lot of fun! Also...yes, I love annoying characters quite a lot...

I think out of the three you've put up he's not the one I'd suggest most strongly, but I don't neccesarrily have anything more than a vague and inexplicable sense of favoritism to back this up with, so you should probably ignore it.

Ichabod Crane

[identity profile] fractured-will.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Ichabod Crane
Series: Sleepy Hollow (film)
Warden or Inmate: Warden. He's too much a rigid goodie for Inmate.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: His curiosity would get the better of his fears, so in short yes.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Yup on both.
Why do you want them?: Another muse of old. The duality of his character is quite amusing. Ichabod is a very straight-laced, no frills, The Truth Matters! detective... whilst at the same time prone to fainting, arachniphobia, and in general acting like a teenaged girl. The idea that his mother might've been a witch could also be interesting.
Potential Concerns: Amsuing in the film, but I'm not sure how well he'd fit. His phobias can be almost one-note, kind of lulzy traits. Ichabod might also be too much like Sam, I worry.

Re: Ichabod Crane

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think Ichabod would be a great Warden if (it's been a long time since I've seen the movie) you think he could handle the "reformer"/"quasi-therapist" part of the job description XD As it is, I would personally love it if Sam had a kindred spirit here! But anyway, those lulzy traits of his shouldn't be too much of a problem, as you'll be given a chance to explore him in greater depth! Personally, of the three characters you've put up, he looks like the most fun to me!

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Earl Hickey
Series: My Name Is Earl
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup, I believe so.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Earl'd be the type that would be curious about everything AND thing he's being a big help my commentating on things he notices.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: He'd be active in most of them.
Why do you want them?: Seriously -- he comes from a world where Karma exists, can you IMAGINE how funny that'd be for whoever's assigned to him as an Inmate? That they'd suddenly be absorbed by a reality where good things happen to them when good and random BAD things happen when they're not?
Potential Concerns: We have too many wardens =/

[identity profile] fathersbludgeon.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love to see Earl. Perfect active warden material. I know that isn't exactly con-crit - but in a game like this? It really suits him.

...

I think I just like Earl in general, but I can just imagine he'd have a great rapport with whoever he ends up with.

[identity profile] impure-tale.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Count Dracula
Series: Dracula by Bram Stoker
Warden or Inmate: Inmate
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: I believe so.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: He'd start fights with all the big men on the barge and belittle the women, and take great pleasure in doing both.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: He seems to be the type that, in spite of all things, is VERY eager to learn, so while he might be offended or angered by the effects floods and ports may have on him, he would likely still take part in many.
Why do you want them?: I need another Inmate, and sometimes playing a sexist doink is just what I need to lighten my mood.

I hope none of my writing has generated dislike for our fanged brethren... :)

I have seen your portrayal of this character and often thought it would suit this forum much better than the other! I really like how you put both aattention to fictional (Stoker making Vlad an ancestor in the genology, not the self-same character) and historical (cultural attitudes) detail in the main profile, while actually using it in the resulting writing. To me, that made it well beyond the walking stereotype this character is so often sadly shown as.

I'd be interested, however, in what sorts of abilities would be removed and retained.

Alfred Bester

[personal profile] acid_rayne 2008-10-22 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Alfred Bester
Series: 'Babylon 5'
Warden or Inmate: Either!
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Certainly.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Yes.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Active.
Why do you want them?: Bester could potentially have a mix of intelligence, ruthlessness and creepiness, which is interesting enough to see, but with a background which would be perfect for either being a warden or dealing with them.
Potential Concerns: Without any telepathic abilities, I'm not sure if he would be intriguing enough, but still has potential. My first instinct woudl be to just downgrade them, but if Solo has absolutely none, that could be unfair, unless as a warden. The morality could go either way, because he felt absolutely justified in what he did (and doing much of it to restore his wife back to life, probably counts in his favour) and yet effectively engaged in 'war crimes'. As an inmate, he'd have no abilities, whatsoever, which would probably cut most of his persona down in a drastic way.

Re: Alfred Bester

[identity profile] stayandgloat.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Bester as an inmate wouldn't be a great idea, because so much of his personality is tied in with his awesome psycop smugness, so without his powers I don't know exactly how you'd play it.

On the other hand, I think Bester would make a fantastic Warden! Yes he's slightly evil, but I think that he's entrenched enough within the system and loyal to the corps enough that it wouldn't be hard for him to be cast as a good guy depending on where your propoganda comes from, so he could get on without too much trouble. Also, I can imagine that with his background within an organization set up to control people, Bester would probably be a pretty effective warden as well, possibly even one of the few who'd actualy do his job, and if anyone tries to mess with him? He can go all psycop on their ass!

Basically, I would LOVE to see him on the Barge, and I honestly think that he'd make a brilliant Warden!

Emperor Palpatine

[personal profile] acid_rayne 2008-10-22 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Darth Sideous/Emperor Palpatine
Series: 'Star Wars'
Warden or Inmate: Inmate
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Very.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Often.
Why do you want them?: Extremely manipulative, charming and yet has a wonderful expressively evil quality. Plus, it would be very interesting to see the dynamic which could play out with certain other characters from their own reality.
Potential Concerns: Without any Force abilities, he'd just be an old guy in a robe! Probably intelligent enough to choose his battles wisely, however, but my concern would be in whether that would be enough to gain the right creative mileage for them.

Re: Emperor Palpatine

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think Palpatine's greatest potential as an inmate would be his ability to work as a sort of mastermind behind creating dissent and conflict across the Barge. However, given the specific... ego types of a lot of Inmates (and some Wardens), I don't know how successful he'd be.

But he'd certainly have a great impact on the more naive/malleable characters!

Peter Venkman

[personal profile] acid_rayne 2008-10-22 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Peter Venkman
Series: 'Ghostbusters'
Warden or Inmate: Warden.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Certainly.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Yeah!
Why do you want them?: A highly sarcastic and opportunistic force for 'good', who's seen enough bizarre stuff going on to probably adjust fairly quick in a reality like this would be. Has a personality which is unlikely to take overly serious threats at face value and inject some humour into otherwise dark situations.
Potential Concerns: Am uncertain when they'd be from! The end of the second film would require me finding and looking through it, again, but the coming game is being sited as canonical or something. Are characters able to go for canon 'updates' and stuff?

Re: Peter Venkman

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Characters can, indeed, get "canon updates"! So I think Venkman would be fine coming from any point, and then if the game has something you'd want to add, then even better. But as it is, I think he'd best be taken from the end of the second movie. I think his personality type would be a great balance against the more serious characters in the game.

Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Yes.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Probably.
Why do you want them?: Because I keep being told I should.
Potential Concerns: He's a fucking mutant in a wheelchair! How does one overcome this obstacle? :)

This post really has no point.

The Djinn

[personal profile] acid_rayne 2008-10-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: The Djinn - name never known.
Series: 'The Wishmaster'.
Warden or Inmate: Inmate.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Definitely.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Very.
Why do you want them?: I adore this character's portrayal and think I could do them justice. The second film actually had them in a prison, also, which did wonders for inspiration! It's a character who has, effectively, been eternally 'imprisoned', which makes for a great deal of irony.
Potential Concerns: None, in my personal view! Although stripped of powers, that was usually when the character came into its intellectual own and its most memorable. Ultimately, they're a schemer, which would seem to fit inmate category well.

The Narrator / Tyler Durden

[identity profile] twodaysinblood.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: The Narrator (Jack) / Tyler Durden
Series: Fight Club
Warden or Inmate: Warden (Narrator as main personality)
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yep, I think so
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Yes
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Active! Tyler's a nosy bugger.
Why do you want them?: Because I think they're a really interesting character and because the canon is so awesome. And the Narrator is Warden material, while Tyler is a total Inmate. It would be great. (Oh, and Tyler's interaction with Prefect would be hilarious, due to his violently anti-consumerist leanings!)
Potential Concerns: Um, the split-personality, essentially I'd be playing two characters. Not sure how well that would come through, because I've never really played a character like that, especially in logs...
acid_rayne: (Default)

Re: The Narrator / Tyler Durden

[personal profile] acid_rayne 2008-10-23 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that might be a problem... They're only different characters in his own mental landscape and, even that, he discovered at the end, if memory serves right! To everyone else, they'd just be the one character. :)

[identity profile] onderhaus.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Eugene/"Vida Boheme"
Series: To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: I believe so.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: This is precisely why I'd like her as a character; she's nosy, she has to be involved in the business of others, and she likes to "help". I think she'd be wildly interactive, especially when finding out that she has the task of being a warden, helping criminals rehabilitate. (In fact, she might try to help ALL of them rehabilitate...!)
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: I can see her interacting in most floods and ports, and doing it with style.
Why do you want them?: I'm really tired of playing characters who keep to themselves, who don't interact and join in. I'd like to be able to interact with all or most of the characters on The Barge, and I think Vida would do just that.
Potential Concerns: She does have the whole transvestite issue, and in the beginning of the movie, she is very afraid of how people will treat her if they find out she's really a man. However, I feel she overcomes this obstale by the end of the film. I'd be glad to hear any other concerns, though - I'm sure there are some that you guys could present.

[identity profile] major-west.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The first time I saw the idea for a To Wong Foo character floated, I was kinda "ehhh" because I felt it was bordering on a crack idea. However, once I thought about it and remembered the plot of the movie and whatnot, I have to say I think she'd be absolutely perfect for the game. I mean, her entire mission to help others and all makes her great Warden material, and I think she actually COULD be very beneficial, depending on who she gets. Also, I'd love to see how you do the character, as she's one I haven't seen in any game ever.

So, APP HER! Keep up TLV's (non-existent) rep of having obscure, never before played characters!

Warning, though: there are probably characters (well, soon-to-be characters like Dino Ortolani and Vern Schillinger) who will get violent on her if they find out she's really a man.

Character Name: Don Quixote
Series: Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes (book)
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Yes. Amusingly so, in fact.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: He'd be very active in ports and floods, though his interpretation of them might differ greatly from what's actually going on.
Why do you want them?: Just an idea I'm kicking around, and would like to have some input on.
Potential Concerns: I think my biggest concern with this character is how well I'd be able to write him, but there are also concerns about whether he'd try to rehabilitate his inmate...or defeat him in glorious battle.

Had to add...

Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Highly.
Why do you want them?: Egotism and comedy potential! She's been effectively 'imprisoned' for most of her recent existence and it would be interesting to see how she would adjust, without the insanity problem evident.

Warden or Inmate: Either!
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Yes.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Probably.
Why do you want them?: Sharp-witted corporate shark! Completely human, but one of those types who is both a survivalist and has no qualms about having her nearest competitors executed. However, what would be really neat, is her former mortal career as a lawyer. She'd be more than happy to represent 'clients' with all manner of variously nonsensical legal technicalities, in the event that a 'court system' ever comes up. :)
Potential Concerns: None, but I'm uncertain whether she would be better as an inmate or warden. She never repented for her life of evil deeds, yet could justify them, as she signed the contract and apparently did so for her mother's health. Morally, though, she was more than happy to join in with wickedness. Yet, she would make a very cool warden, as she's effectively been on the side of evil and would probably be so, in exchange for being got out of her afterlife contract.

Anna Valerious

[identity profile] evy-carnahan.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Anna Valerious
Series: Van Helsing
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: I believe so.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Yup
Why do you want them?: Because I've been told that it would be interesting to have her here as opposed to elsewhere and I've always wanted to try the character out and expand on her a bit. There's so much that's hinted in the movie about her history and connection to people.
Potential Concerns: Well, she's a vampire hunter so that might create some conflict with those on board like Spike and definitely Aleera but I think it would make for interesting times, seeing that if I do put in the application and she's accepted then I would take her from before Van Helsing finishes her off because a dead Warden isn't a good Warden. =(

Also, I believe one of the mods doesn't really like the character so there's that little road block. D:

I put on the special account for this one!

I give this my wholehearted endorsement and not just for links to my own character. :) Firstly, I think she'd be in her element in many of the ports. Even in what I'm told of the Venice one, I could imagine her being in something like that (because of the ballroom scene). Also, there is comedic potential, because of language barriers! Aleera sometimes has those, but I don't play on them as much as an Anna would, because Aleera tends to twist things into scariness, by default.

There would also be the value of Giselle having someone to go to, to get personal answers from, when Aleera is being too amnbiguous or not very forthcoming.

As a character, however, although the film have her a superficial foundation, I know for a fact that you're able to take characters well beyond that and round them out. As you say, there were hints of this and that in the film, which the writers never seemed to bother to revisit (or were perhaps cut out of later drafts of scripts), which would give you plenty of material to explore or have them think about.

One more thing, which I just thought about: This doesn't necessarily apply to many characters who come here, but this one would have the emotional twist of still needing to properly grieve her brother's death. Not dwell on it, because she's a strong and fearsomely independent character, but it would give you some extra emotional material to bat around them with.

This is one of those characters which have potential and saddened me that the production team did not explore properly. Given sufficient writing skill, I definitely think you could be someone who does her justice.

Oh and, someone was saying, earlier, that they were feeling iffy about too many vampire characters potentially being around? Anna's accustomed to at least confronting and potentially hunting them down, so, would be useful in that particular regard!

Conflict with Aleera, in this case, would be a good thing. :) They would play off of one another, without doubt.

The only potentially troublesome thing, would be her unfamiliarity with modern technology, but I personally see Anna as adaptive and resourceful. Not someone who would encounter too much 'culture shock' for a very long time.

Jack Sparrow

[identity profile] andrew-unwells.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Jack Sparrow
Series: Pirates of the Caribbean
Warden or Inmate: I was going to say inmate, but this is the part I wanted feedback on. More on this in Potential Concerns
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: He certainly would.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: He'd be all over ports for sure and probably floods as well.
Why do you want them?: Because he'd be so much fun. Also, several people in this rp are equally enthusiastic about him making an appearance.

Potential Concerns: I'm in the midst of writing (re-writing, gawdamn computer) his application and I have him as "inmate", mostly due to the fact that I'm taking him after he gets eaten and so prior to much of his more charitable acts. Figuring in that whole willingness and follow-through of getting 100 souls to trade for his freedom, I thought at this point he'd still be on the naughty list.

HOWEVER we all know that Jack is one of the more moral pirates in the series and most of his more unsavory acts stem from his very strong sense of self-preservation, so there's certainly an arguement to be made for him being a Warden instead.

And on yet another hand, Jack perhaps isn't bad enough to be an inmate at all and at the same time certainly not good enough to make a very effective moral compass for anyone else. So maybe he doesn't belong on this ship at all. Nothing against him, just wondering about the fit.

Any help much appreciated!

Despite how much of a scumbag he can be, I can't see Jack as an Inmate. He could certainly fit as one, but I keep seeing "WARDEN" for him. Sure, he wouldn't be a great Warden, but he'd be an interesting, quite hilarious one. Plus, I could see him coming to the Barge and becoming a warden specifically to avoid some nasty consequences of his actions back home.

Aziraphale

[identity profile] flamebishonen.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Aziraphale
Series: Good Omens
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Definitely.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Probably active... Definitely active if he had an inmate that was going; he would definitely follow them to keep an eye on them. He'd also want to help out as much as he could, so there's another reason he'd go to ports.
Why do you want them?: I've been dying to roleplay Aziraphale, and he seems an excellent fit for this sort of plot. No matter who he got as an inmate, I am positive that hilarity would ensue.
Potential Concerns: I've never played him before, so there's a chance I'd be rather lame at playing him. He's a book character, and I'm not sure who I could use as a play-by (though that's a minor concern rather than major)... Also, I'm not sure how he'd end up here. Maybe as a punishment for helping stop the end of the world from happening?

I wouldn't let the fact that you've never played him before deter you from at least putting together an application for him. In fact, I think the fact that you've never written him before should be all the more reason to try! Aziraphale would be a delightful character, and I, at least, have been wanting to see him in the game for a while XD As for how he'd end up here, I don't think it'd even have to be a punishment. Coming to the Barge and reforming somebody seems like something he'd WANT to do.

With the play-by, that shouldn't be much of an issue. You just need to find a guy with outdated clothes who seems British and gay (...and has plump hands). There are plenty of guys out there who fit that description XD The Aziraphale at one game I'm in has a PB of Stephen Fry, who is oddly perfect!

ANYWAY. I know that I would love to see Aziraphale here, so I hope you apply for him!

Spider Jerusalem

[identity profile] sailing-sparrow.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Spider Jerusalem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider_Jerusalem)
Series: Transmetropolitain
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes... I think? Not sure if my having L means I can't play an American comic book character too.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Hoo boy, Spider would be annoying the piss out of everybody. He doesn't like people, but he still interacts with them a lot.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: He's a reporter. He can't keep his nose out of anything.
Why do you want them?: Well, mostly because I loves me some Spider. But admittedly I'm interested in breaking my personal "no more than three characters" rule just because there are some people on the barge that would be hilarious to interact with as Spider.
Potential Concerns: Like I said, he's a comic book character and I already have L - though admittedly it's live-action!L. Also, Spider's a fuckhead. A really mean fuckhead. I hope he doesn't piss anyone off OOCly but that's always a worry with ginormous assholes like Spider. Also, he tends to swear like no one's business, which may offend some.

So yeah, just let me know if I'm allowed to take him and (for my own curiosity's sake) if anyone even knows who he is.

Re: Spider Jerusalem

[personal profile] bythe_books 2008-11-05 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
L doesn't qualify for the anime/manga rule since he's a live action character, plus so far American comic book characters aren't part of that rule either, so don't worry there!

THAT SAID: Spider would be INCREDIBLE. I've never seen him played in a game before, but I've read all of Transmet obsessively and given your track record of pulling off character's voices with beautiful authenticity, I think you could easily do him justice! And as somebody whose characters mostly fit into the "asshole" variety (and I'm sure they've offended people OOC with their asshole-ness, sadly), I can see the worry being a valid concern. But, in the end, this is an 18+ oriented game, so people should be adult enough to handle his unique personality without getting offended :D

I would love you forever if you took him. OH, THE MAYHEM.

Character Name: Abigor; this guy (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3214/2435616165_e8bc6e28d9.jpg?v=0).
Series: Ghost Rider.
Warden or Inmate: Inmate; he's a wind demon with sharp, pointy teeth and was once the Grand Duke of Hell before Blackheart recruited him.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Hai.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Aye, he'll be floating around like a pest.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Hmm, depends on the flood, but most likely.
Why do you want them?: I played him before on GJ before it died and it was fun, but short lived. I want an inmate and he's a lesser played character who needs love.
Potential Concerns:
* We already have a lot of males on board.
* I know inmates powers are restricted and I don't mind him not being able to go all Nazi!wind hurricane and stuff, but I would like him to be able to go ghosty like. He'll likely be pissy and emo-ish without his powers, but who isn't? He was a Grand Duke! Of Hell! xD
- that's aboot it for now.

[identity profile] lazarusrisen.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well THAT'S a kind of creepy picture. I already like this guy.

He seems like a pretty cool guy. I haven't seen Ghost Rider, so I know next to nothing about him. I personally don't see anything wrong with just going ghost as I believe that Q can become intangible. Maybe. I'm not sure. Still, talk it up with the mods. They're supposed to know these things. xD

Also? Don't worry about the fact that we have a lot of males. My theory is the crazies on here scare off the chicks.

Character Name: Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler
Series: X-Men
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: ...um. See 'concerns'.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: He would be shy at first but I think once he got to know people who didn't hunt him, yeah, more of his swashbuckling side might show through
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Absolutely.
Why do you want them?: I might possibly be dropping Jim (for a variety of reasons) so Kurt would in a way take his place. And really, Kurt is just a fun character in general.
Potential Concerns: This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/Yuna5/nightcrawlerHold.jpg) and this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/Yuna5/nctopless.jpg). He's not a demon, just looks like one. Already I know he'll have the image inducer which will give him the illusion of someone 'normal' - example (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/Yuna5/alancumming.jpg) - for ports and such. And he'd wear it if anyone is nervous around him. But I wouldn't want him with it at all times, y'know?

[identity profile] fathersbludgeon.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
... I say yes, because Kurt's adorable and like... my favourite. :c

... Besides, it'd get some mighty variety on barge, and I think the interactions between him and Gabriel could be really interesting. D:

With an image inducer, I think your concerns are pretty much covered, no?

IDK. :c

Alex DeLarge

[identity profile] psychosnowflake.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Alex DeLarge
Series: A Clockwork Orange (film)
Warden or Inmate: Inmate
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yep! Um, except being dead, but I could swing that.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Sure... it might be violent interaction, but he'd be active.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Probably, mainly to cause random mayhem.
Why do you want them?: Because I just watched ACO for the first time and the character is bouncing in my head. And I need an inmate.
Potential Concerns: Giles and Peter! I have no time! The slang, and his voice, mainly.

Re: Alex DeLarge

[identity profile] soundof-drums.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hugely biased in favor of Giles and Peter, BUT that aside, Alex could be an interesting character, and I always enjoy seeing more violent guys in the game! BUT I STILL WANT MY BARGE MAFIA, C'MON PETEY. Anywho, as a way to address your concerns, I'd say you should read the book before you apply for him (if you choose to apply for him!). For the most part, it's not significantly different from the film, and since Alex is the narrator, you'll be more than familiar with his voice and the slang by the time you're done.

...plus it's just an awesome book. Of course, if you've already read it, then this point is moot 'cause you know that!

Anyway, as for the slang, there's a comprehensive dictionary of Nadsat here (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Academy/1974/nadsat.html), which is mighty helpful!

Annnd that's all I've got to say on Alex. Definitely an interesting choice!

Hinamori Momo

[identity profile] black-n-bright.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Hinamori Momo (http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Momo_Hinamori)
Series: Bleach
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes indeedy!
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: She sure would!
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Yuppers.
Why do you want them?: Because I need to play a freaking GIRL already, and I think the rp could benefit from more estrogen. Plus, just like Andrew, Momo's voice is an easy one to find and write for.
Potential Concerns: While I'd be using her actress from the stage musicals (yeah, there are musicals of Bleach in Japan), she's still an anime girl. Her past is a good excuse to have her on the barge, but it's angsty as all hell and it's made her a bit unstable.

Pretty angsty anime girl? Yeah, I think my Sue-paranoia may be justified. On the other hand she's cute, innocent, and certainly NOT looking for a relationship anytime soon (her heart still belongs to Captain Aizen) so I believe she'd make a good addition to the barge.
