TLV - Potential Application Discussion (Old Form)
Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!
THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.
However, there are some rules.
1. Mods are the final decision makers. So, a lot of people love your character? Got great feedback? But then-- whaaaat?-- you post your app and it's REJECTED? GASP! Sorry, approval here does NOT substitute mod approval. Do NOT use this thread as basis for whining at the mods if your character is rejected. If you do, this thread is getting shut down. (PS: This rule applies EVEN IF ONE OF THE MODS GIVES YOU GOOD FEEDBACK IN THIS THREAD)
2. No content-less posts. I don't want to see any "OMG YES!" or any "HELL NO"s. You have to provide reasons. This post is for constructive discussion.
3. No flaming. This kinda goes with the above. If you think the character is fine but the player can't pull it off, BE CONSTRUCTIVE and don't insult the player.
4. BE HONEST. Speaks for itself. You think a character would be a terrible fit? Then don't say "Oh, it'll be wonderful!"
5. No plotting. A lot of times, people get all excited about making up plots for characters who aren't even in the game yet (and who MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED), leaving those who are in the game with nothing to do with... well, nothing to do. It's distracting and the excitement over "what-ifs" diverts too much from the actual game.
6. Don't take this personally. You do not equal your (potential) character. If everybody thinks it's a lousy character who wouldn't fit, it's NOT an attack on you or your RPing.
Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Yes, some of the questions seem stupid, but these are things we'd like you to keep in mind BEFORE you apply for a character.
HAVE FUN.

Series: Barton Fink
Warden or Inmate: Inmate
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yeah.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Totally -- he's always willing to provide an ear, help you out of tough-spots, give advice, teach you how to wrestle and'll kill your parents while he's at it.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: I'd imagine so, yeah.
Why do you want them?: Because he's got a complexity to him, is REALLY scary, the barge needs more big-boned people, and because I want an excuse not to play my NOW token type. He's really not a 'trolling asshole'.
Potential Concerns: He kinda strikes me more as a symbol, somehow, than as a character. We're given the impression he could be the devil, or like... the anger AND strength of the common man... as well as being like, a WW2 symbol, blahblahblah. Not that this means there isn't a character to work with --- he has a strong personality, voice, etc. --- I just worry about redeeming, etc, I guess? I don't know. I'm unsure, basically, but would love to give him a go as I become more active.

1) He is a scary, friendly, awesome bastard! Just as a player, on a completely selfish level, I'd want to send Prefect at him and worry about the wrestling and have him fail at understanding the common mans plight!
2) While he might be used symbolically, I'd say it's clear that he isn't just an archetype put in to represent something, there are enough details of his personality and his motivations put in to make him extremely playable and (to a certain degree) sympathetic even, when he talks about Barton being a tourist, and not listening, are good examples of this. He's damn complex, and I think that keeping some of the suggestions as to what he represents might even be a good thing! For instance, Prefect was mainly a symbol for the ruling classes and the damage that blind capitalism can do, but it doesn't make him any worse a character to play!
3) ...I WANT YOU TO PLAY HIM BAWWWW.
4) The level of activity he'd get in would be really good for you I think! Because he could be active and friendly and actually LIKE PEOPLE on the Barge, without being ooc! Which I know has been a previous problem for your characters!
5) PLEASE PLAY HIM :C
And there's the concise list of why you should play him!
