TLV - Potential Application Discussion (Old Form)

POTENTIAL APPLICATION DISCUSSION

Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!

THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.

However, there are some rules.

1. Mods are the final decision makers. So, a lot of people love your character? Got great feedback? But then-- whaaaat?-- you post your app and it's REJECTED? GASP! Sorry, approval here does NOT substitute mod approval. Do NOT use this thread as basis for whining at the mods if your character is rejected. If you do, this thread is getting shut down. (PS: This rule applies EVEN IF ONE OF THE MODS GIVES YOU GOOD FEEDBACK IN THIS THREAD)
2. No content-less posts. I don't want to see any "OMG YES!" or any "HELL NO"s. You have to provide reasons. This post is for constructive discussion.
3. No flaming. This kinda goes with the above. If you think the character is fine but the player can't pull it off, BE CONSTRUCTIVE and don't insult the player.
4. BE HONEST. Speaks for itself. You think a character would be a terrible fit? Then don't say "Oh, it'll be wonderful!"
5. No plotting. A lot of times, people get all excited about making up plots for characters who aren't even in the game yet (and who MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED), leaving those who are in the game with nothing to do with... well, nothing to do. It's distracting and the excitement over "what-ifs" diverts too much from the actual game.
6. Don't take this personally. You do not equal your (potential) character. If everybody thinks it's a lousy character who wouldn't fit, it's NOT an attack on you or your RPing.

Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Yes, some of the questions seem stupid, but these are things we'd like you to keep in mind BEFORE you apply for a character.

HAVE FUN.

Spike

Character Name: Spike (a.k.a William the Bloody)
Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Sure does.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Yes.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: I think he'd be active, assuming sunlight isn't a problem for vampires in this rpg.
Why do you want them?: I think he'd a be a fun character to portray and I think it'd be fun to see him interact with Angel and Drusilla.
Potential Concerns: Just if I'd get his voice down. But then again, if I watch enough Buffy eps I think it won't be too much of a problem.

We actually had a Spike, once, but before I applied this character. :) They do have much potential and I'd ask only for certain, unclarified issues between them (which are in the profile), to remain as ambiguous.

I'm sure that an authentic Spike would have a lot of interaction with her!

[identity profile] ertheuponerthe.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
So I'm guessing the other Spike is no longer active?

[identity profile] thevanishingman.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the other Spike has been dropped for a few months now, and he was here so briefly that you can easily just start him fresh!

I do think that he can be quite a fun character to have around, since we've got a fairly sizeable Buffy cast now (with Andrew, Anya, Ethan, and Giles in addition to Angel and Dru) for him to interact with. Plus, I think his voice is so distinctive in the show that yeah, a bit of episode reviewing should make it no problem at all.

As for sunlight, it sort of works as a case by case basis for ports, but while on the Barge itself, it's not an issue!

[identity profile] deathly-dru.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the other Spike did not really get very much involved, for the time that they were here. Nothing really there to contradict!

I should add that my Lilah is also here, though! :D

When would you be pulling him from? I think only certain Spikes would work well here.. but I would love a good Spike (I never met the other one).

I was thinking more of a season 6-7 Spike. Either trying to be one of the good guys while not having a soul, or has a soul and trying to prove that he is worthy of it.

Personally, I think a chipped Spike 5-6 would be great. But I don't remember 7 very well.

Yeah, I think I'm leaning more toward chipped season 6 Spike. Season 7 Spike was great and all, especially when he just got his soul back and was totally crazy and talking to himself, but chipped Spike actually had something to strive for, I think.

Wouldn't a pre-'Chosen' Spike still be massively fixated on obsessing over Buffy, though? If he was from over on 'Angel', it would probably negate the trickiness of that - which I only say because I can easily see it warping his wardening obligations, otherwise. :)

True enough. A post-Buffy Spike might be the better choice in that regard.

I'd personally love to have a Spike on board. Seeing the way a later Spike would react to Drusilla would be a blast, and I'm sure he'd have lots of fun times with Angel too ;)

Where you'd take him from is probably my biggest question. Taking him from Angel might be a good idea, since you wouldn't have to worry about his craziness or his Buffy obsession clouding his wardenly duties, but if you'd rather play with those things... I could see it working. I guess it really depends on what you want to do with him.

I think I'd most likely take him from Angel, since he doesn't have as much baggage at that point. My only problem is I haven't seen those eps in so long I wouldn't know if I was writing him right. Whereas with Spike from Buffy, I have a couple of seasons at home to get research from. However, I suppose I could brush up on my Angelverse Spike season by obtaining those episodes somehow.

I'm gonna go against the grain and suggest chipped Season 4 living-in-Giles's-bathtub Spike, because, while not a hero, he still would have something to strive for (a deal with the warden to remove the chip), he'd be at maximum snarkiness, and he'd really throw a wrench into things for the rest of his castmates. Plus, even though he's still evil at this point, he's shown a few times (I think) that he's capable of working for the 'greater good' if it benefits him, and he wouldn't have any Buffy obsession at all, so he could be a decent Warden. So, he could be a nicely conflicted Warden, treading the line between good and evil, and being a major pain to everybody else while he's at it. Plus! There'd be even less canon to review.

And I'm just biased because I never liked "good," "I LOVE BUFFY" Spike D:

Regardless of where you take him, of course, he'll have a lot of stuff to work with.

I didn't think about 4.. I still think chipped 5 would be best. If you take him early he's not obsessed with Buffy yet. And even if he is a bit, he can get over it pretty easily once he gets on the Barge (since she won't be around). I think 4 is more snarky/evil, whereas 5 he's come to kinda accept the chip so he'll be more likely to warden.
