TLV - Potential Application Discussion (Old Form)
Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!
THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.
However, there are some rules.
1. Mods are the final decision makers. So, a lot of people love your character? Got great feedback? But then-- whaaaat?-- you post your app and it's REJECTED? GASP! Sorry, approval here does NOT substitute mod approval. Do NOT use this thread as basis for whining at the mods if your character is rejected. If you do, this thread is getting shut down. (PS: This rule applies EVEN IF ONE OF THE MODS GIVES YOU GOOD FEEDBACK IN THIS THREAD)
2. No content-less posts. I don't want to see any "OMG YES!" or any "HELL NO"s. You have to provide reasons. This post is for constructive discussion.
3. No flaming. This kinda goes with the above. If you think the character is fine but the player can't pull it off, BE CONSTRUCTIVE and don't insult the player.
4. BE HONEST. Speaks for itself. You think a character would be a terrible fit? Then don't say "Oh, it'll be wonderful!"
5. No plotting. A lot of times, people get all excited about making up plots for characters who aren't even in the game yet (and who MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED), leaving those who are in the game with nothing to do with... well, nothing to do. It's distracting and the excitement over "what-ifs" diverts too much from the actual game.
6. Don't take this personally. You do not equal your (potential) character. If everybody thinks it's a lousy character who wouldn't fit, it's NOT an attack on you or your RPing.
Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Yes, some of the questions seem stupid, but these are things we'd like you to keep in mind BEFORE you apply for a character.
HAVE FUN.

Bill Nash/Preece
Series: Cracker
Warden or Inmate: Inmate - He's an impulsive little murderer bent on trying to make everybody who's made him suffer and feel unloved pay, and he draws an innocent, law-abiding man in to commit these crimes with him (although he PROBABLY didn't do this on purpose, he definitely goads Grady in to the first murder).
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Uh. I DON'T KNOW, ACTUALLY. See "Potential Concerns."
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: He'd be a vicious little troll, probably :c
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: YUP.
Why do you want them?: I think he'd be a nice change from my other characters, most of whom are... SUPPOSED to be super smart and all. Bill's more incidentally manipulative, and he's got childish sort of aggression and nastiness. I also like that he's a thoroughly unglamorous character, being really immature, possessive, clingy, not extremely intelligent, not even that manipulative, etc. Despite that, he's got a real need to be loved and wanted, which drives most of his neurotic behavior.
Potential Concerns:
1. I'd have to review the canon, but he MIGHT only be 16, which puts him under the age requirement.
2. He's played by John Simm. :| That would give me THREE JOHN SIMMS, which is fucking excessive. On the other hand, Bill doesn't look like Sam or the Master, since physically he's supposed to be 20 years younger than both of them, so there shouldn't be any "HEY YOU LOOK LIKE THAT GUY LOL"
3. Again, he'd be a seventh character.
4. HE'S ANOTHER BRITISH GUY. I'd like to, uh, not be "that person who only plays British guys played by Christopher Eccleston and John Simm."
Here's a clip of Bill in action: BAM. Warning: HUGE SPOILERS. Now, this clip may also be misleading, because it makes it look like Bill and Grady are star-crossed lovers. That is NOT the case; there's no indication that Bill's feelings are sexual in any way-- in fact, for a teenage boy, Bill practically has no sex drive at all. Despite his age and experiences, he's portrayed as very much a child in temperament. While Grady clearly loves an idealized version of Bill (which is proven to NOT be the reality in the series), it's likely that Bill sees Grady as everything he's missing: somebody stable who loves him unconditionally and will do anything for him. It also doesn't show how vicious or whiny Billy can be :\
Still, it shows his sympathetic side.
Honestly, I'd like to try Grady more, but he just doesn't fit the game at all D:Re: Bill Nash/Preece
And I will not reply to either of these for at least a month, while your new inmate gets settled. :3
Re: Bill Nash/Preece
