TLV - Potential Application Discussion (Old Form)

POTENTIAL APPLICATION DISCUSSION

Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!

THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.

However, there are some rules.

1. Mods are the final decision makers. So, a lot of people love your character? Got great feedback? But then-- whaaaat?-- you post your app and it's REJECTED? GASP! Sorry, approval here does NOT substitute mod approval. Do NOT use this thread as basis for whining at the mods if your character is rejected. If you do, this thread is getting shut down. (PS: This rule applies EVEN IF ONE OF THE MODS GIVES YOU GOOD FEEDBACK IN THIS THREAD)
2. No content-less posts. I don't want to see any "OMG YES!" or any "HELL NO"s. You have to provide reasons. This post is for constructive discussion.
3. No flaming. This kinda goes with the above. If you think the character is fine but the player can't pull it off, BE CONSTRUCTIVE and don't insult the player.
4. BE HONEST. Speaks for itself. You think a character would be a terrible fit? Then don't say "Oh, it'll be wonderful!"
5. No plotting. A lot of times, people get all excited about making up plots for characters who aren't even in the game yet (and who MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED), leaving those who are in the game with nothing to do with... well, nothing to do. It's distracting and the excitement over "what-ifs" diverts too much from the actual game.
6. Don't take this personally. You do not equal your (potential) character. If everybody thinks it's a lousy character who wouldn't fit, it's NOT an attack on you or your RPing.

Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Yes, some of the questions seem stupid, but these are things we'd like you to keep in mind BEFORE you apply for a character.

HAVE FUN.

Bartleby

Character Name: Bartleby
Series: Dogma
Warden or Inmate: err... see below
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: yes
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: He likes to talk to people!
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: I think he'd love exploring anywhere that wasn't Wisconsin.
Why do you want them?: I've played him before, but never in a proper game. I enjoy his personality and the way he interacts with Loki, though of course, the Loki he'd expect isn't here.
Potential Concerns: In the film, Bartleby does sort of come full circle from reasonable and sympathetic observer of humanity to psycho murderer to repentant son. So there's definitely justification for making him an inmate, but I think he'd make a better warden based on his, uh, non-psycho personality traits. The ones showcased in 90% of the movie. He's a Grigori, a Watcher. In apocrypha, they slept with humans and produced nephilim, earning themselves a swift boot out of heaven, buuuut they are also said to have taught humans stuff and Bartleby has his own canon reasons for being booted from heaven. I don't know, my point is, he's a listener and a teacher and despite his little, um, lapse would make a great Warden. But. There's that little lapse. That... killing a huge crowd of people lapse. Maybe he's a former inmate? Does that sound doable?

I was actually thinking about the potential of a dogma cast quite recently, and personally? I think that Bartleby could be a brilliant addition to the game! I think that you could definately take him as a warden post canon, or if you wanted? As his repenting was basically divine intervention, if you wanted to play him as an inmate, you could probably say that when god first steps out of the gates he is transported to the barge, and whatever events happen here happen, but only a fraction of a second passes for him, so when he returns comes the remainder of the scene?

I don't know how you'd prefer to play him, but I honestly think that Bartleby works both ways, and I would love to see him on the barge! He's a great character, and... uhhh, yeah, get apping bb!

It's been a long time since I've seen that film, but from what I remember, I think he'd be a great fit here! Specifically, the former-inmate route could be really fun to play; he'd already be familiar with the workings and goings-on of the Barge, and he'd have a unique perspective to things that isn't often played out here. Alternately (I HAVE NO MEMORY OF THE ENDING), he could be working as a warden to repent for all the murder. Either way works, I think, and I think he'd be a blast, so APP HIM C:

WELL. I think that he could be great! And either way you want to go - previously an inmate or whatever - could be worked out. And it would be really interesting to play that out, a reformed inmate coming back that is. He would be great fun.

Uh yeahhhh, I don't have anything overly constructive to say that the others haven't said already, but good choice! I love Bartleby quite a bit. c:

Psst. Hiya. It's Kates from C&C playing not your Loki as well as a shitton of other guys.

I think that the former inmate who became a warden sounds like a good idea. The barge has a really crappy track record, so that gives a sort of bonus to that. Uh...everybody else kind of hit what I wanted to say (unique perspective, great fun, go for it) so yeah!
