TLV - Potential Application Discussion
Thinking about applying for a character, but not quite sure if they're a good fit? This post is dedicated to discussion of that very thing! A jury of your peers will help you in deciding whether or not a character you suddenly have a hankering for would be a fit for the Barge!
THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. Nobody HAS to participate, and nobody HAS to post here before they post an application! This is just for people who are unsure and would like to have a discussion before they apply.
Please take the following into consideration when posting or replying here:
1. Mods are the final decision makers. Even if you get great feedback, player approval does not substitute mod approval. Even if a mod replies to your comment here telling you that they'd love to see the character and to go ahead and app, they're not making a promise to auto-approve your app once it's submitted.
2. This post is for constructive discussion. Even if your gut reaction is a simple "OMG YES" or "HELL NO", providing details and reasons for that reaction will always be more helpful to the player. In addition, please remain polite and civil at all times. Even if you take issue with a prospective character or the direction the player wants to take them in, flaming, insults, etc. will not be tolerated.
3. Avoid too much pre-plotting. Remember that this is all still theoretical, and the characters posted here haven't been apped or accepted into the game yet.
4. Don't take this personally. If people have concerns about the suitability of your character, or are unsure about some aspect of your comment (ex. the warden/inmate justification), it's not an attack on you or your RPing.
Put the character's name as the subject line (ONE CHARACTER PER COMMENT), and be sure to fill out the following form. Please do try to hit on all the points asked about here - this is all stuff we'd like you to keep in mind before you apply, and going into at least some level of detail will help spark meaningful discussion.

Character name: John Gaius
Series: Locked Tomb
Warden or inmate: INMATE
Do they meet all rules and requirements? Yup.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others? Absolutely.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out? Definitely!
Why do you want them? Because man does this guy need to get deflated and worked over and made to see the error of his ways. This is 100% a 'oh baby, we need to fix you up' app where there WAS clearly someone decent in the giant heaping garbage fire that is his life choices but hoooo boy have they buried themselves but deep. I also like the ones who seem nice but also have some DEEP problems at the core that cause their bad decisions.
Potential concerns: SO!
One big concept in his canon is the concept of thalergy vs. thanergy, LIVING energy vs. NECROMANTIC energy. There's some background here. Canon shows that you can have stable, seemingly functional things that provide thanergy, such as the planets in the House system. So the idea that there would be stable and not rotting or dying people on board who are also dead would not phase him, especially as a lyctor/god/THING. But how would his perceptions/powers play with the fact that there are 'dead' people on board and people who 'die' on board, vs. people who are living who might 'die' on board, etc. etc. etc. I don't want to take liberties and I also don't want to make game-verse decisions for you; I'm AOKAY with asking folks individually about it as any other perception but I wanted to check in with you since even nerfed into the ground it would heavily affect how he functions.

- the barge itself & its powers would be completely opaque to being perceived in this schema
- inmates who died to get on board would read, energy-wise, as fully and really alive as long as the barge sustains them. Based on player preference, there might be room for them to read as Alive*, with the asterisk of Did Die To Get Here being observable but giving no workable energy any different from a regular living person
- any crosscanon undead types will still be undeadish and the mechanics of what affects what can be worked out case by case
- samesies for anyone who due to canon magic/science/bullshit has a weird death/resurrection situation in canon
- anyone who is actively undergoing a death toll has kind of a death hangover - they're alive, but they probably have a dollop of death energy kinda hanging over them slowly dispersing like a heavy cloud
