CHARACTER APPLICATIONSApplication periods are open all month, every month.
The Final Fantasy VII Compilation cast is at cap, and FFVII Compilation apps are currently closed. Please read all rules and guidelines before submitting an application. Be sure to check the
Taken Characters list and the
Retired Characters list before posting an application here.
NOTES:- After applying for a character, we ask that players allow 30 days before bringing their next character into the game. In some cases (warden or cast caps, upcoming major game events) players may approach the mod team and clear submitting an application a few days early, though it will not be approved before the 30 day mark.
- If you are applying into an existing cast, please be aware that we may speak to players of characters close to (any version of) the character, and will speak to the players of canonmates of the character for which you are applying. We reserve the right to reject an application if it would render a current character or characters unplayable in the opinion of their player(s). If your app is rejected for this reason, we ask that you respect the decision.
- Both samples may be taken from threads on the Test Drive Meme, as long as they are recent and match your application with respect to canonpoint and warden/inmate status. The TDM goes up once per month and is always marked on the Event Calendar. If you would prefer to write yours out and would like some inspiration, check out the Flood Event tag on the OOC community; you're welcome to write a sample based on your character's reaction after one of these events! Here are a few popular choices.
- Canons (or canonpoints, in the case of ongoing series) must have been out for at least 30 days before they can be applied for.
- If you're reapping a character that you previously dropped and you plan to have them retain their memories of their previous stint onboard, please include at least a few sentences discussing how their previous stay affected them, and noting any relevant changes to their personality, worldview, and motivations. The more significant the changes, the more detail we'd like.

Re: Application: Prince Po 2/?
On top of that, he has the power to sense the “physical energy” of others. He knows what movements a person intends to make before they make them. He can also tell if someone on the other side of a door is about to knock, or if they’ve got a long nose or a missing eye. Since he is still young, his power is growing. Recently he has begun to sense the physicality of animals, plants, and even features of the land. He can tell if a rock is in his path in the dark or if there are fish in a nearby stream.
This power leaves him extremely isolated, however: he cannot turn his power off and he cannot block the thoughts of others from entering his mind. If anyone knew that he could read some of their thoughts, they would not trust him. Because of that he hides his abilities. He pretends to have the Grace of hand-fighting because he is naturally an exceptional fighter; his real Grace also gives him a very definite advantage in a fight because he can predict any move an opponent will make before the opponent makes it.
As a note, anyone from his world could tell at a glance that he is Graced, for Gracelings all share the common trait of odd eyes. One of his eyes is silver, and the other is gold. (Yes, I’m aware that this makes him sound like a Mary Sue. In his defense, most people in the story are frightened or revolted by odd eyes because of their connotation, and his strange-colored eyes especially scare people. They also apparently make his face look uneven.)
Re: Application: Prince Po 3/?
But it’s a façade. The Po that sits in the public eye may be a social creature, but the real Po would much rather the relative peace and solitude of his own home or of the road, for being around others often means living a lie. He is well aware of the danger his Grace puts him in and knows that if anyone were to discover it, most of his life would be revealed to be a lie. Therefore he’s very cautious about letting himself get close to others. He can seem a great friend to all he meets, but until midway through the book he has never opened up to anyone about his true personality.
In his truest state, Po is a man with a profoundly good understanding of himself and a great amount of self-confidence, but not without a certain amount of doubt. He is always willing to explain himself and his feelings to others and is never humiliated by how pathetic or strange his emotions may sound. But he is also very aware that he is usually living a lie even around his family, whom he adores. This makes him feel fake and untrustworthy, and he hates the idea of deceiving anyone he cares about. But he knows, as much as it saddens him, that he can never tell the truth. He dislikes himself for his inability to control his Grace and for his own willingness to deceive, but he also loves himself for who he is and what he is capable of being. He is perhaps the most well-rounded and sane person in his canon.
Po’s Grace also causes him stress by nature. At only 20 years old he is still growing into his abilities; every day new facets of his Grace open up to him. The result is that he is often disconcerted by what his own mind is telling him. He states in the book that he has spent many years trying to understand the thoughts of others, picking out which are fleeting fancies – an older brother wanting to beat him senseless for stealing a toy, etc. – and which are meaningful thoughts that have bearing on the minds of others. Because of this he has a great deal of experience discerning the psychology of others: often he is more tuned in to the emotions of those around him than they themselves are. He cannot often share all he knows about others or offer comfort without appearing suspicious, but he perceives the changing moods of everyone around him at all times. Furthermore, Po is utterly and completely aware of his own emotions at all times, whether he is truly upset or calm. He has great mastery over his moods and thus appears to be a calm and balanced person even when he is upset.
Not all of his outward façade is a lie, though: Po really does value the company of friends and can see the humor in almost everything. Though he cannot fully open himself to others for the most part, he is happy in the company of those he knows. Often he is able to lie about his true nature to others without feeling treacherous, for he has had many years to come to terms with his life of concealment. And when he feels happy, he is able to make those around him happy as well.
Certain aspects of his life have changed though, not long before the point at which I hope to pick him up. As I will recount in the history section, a grievous injury has left him weak and nearly helpless. He has been hiding away from civilization all alone for several months, evading capture by a great army and pushing himself toward strength to save his family and friends. I pick him up at an angry, unbalanced point in his life, so presenting his outward façade will be more difficult for him than usual. What drives him in the story to recover from his injuries and, if I am accepted, to help people on the Barge, is a desperate situation that few others are capable of fixing. He will be more driven and determined than he has ever been in his own quiet way, though he will want to show his easygoing act to those around him.
Re: Application: Prince Po 4/?
Early on, Po’s Grace was uncontrolled and unpredictable. He would sense thoughts from others constantly, living his life overwhelmed and dizzy from the onslaught. Usually he could not make sense of what thoughts came into his mind or how they pertained to those around him. He could not tell what thoughts were passing and unimportant and what thoughts truly mattered to others. Though it is not said in the book, I believe that Po lived as a nervous if not paranoid child for some years, constantly expecting one of those around him who sometimes had passing violent thoughts to hurt him. However, he eventually gained enough perspective to be able to sort “important” thoughts from “unimportant” thoughts. Around this time he also began to be able to sense the physicality of those around him, how their bodies were going to move and when. Because of this, and because he was already a capable handfighter like his brothers, his mother decided to disguise his mind-reading Grace as a simple fighting Grace. The disguise worked, for Po was soon besting all of his brothers in combat.
When he became old enough to leave his parents Po was given his own castle, many miles away from the high court of his father. Had he wished to he could have had his own court and become the ruler of the lands around the castle, but he preferred not to rule anyone. He adored his castle for its beauty, and though it was not large compared to those of his brothers, he was content to live in it when he was not traveling across Lienid or over the sea to the mainland of the continent. His brothers became interested in leadership and in the affairs of the state; all of them enjoyed ruling their own courts and, Po believed, secretly wished to inherit the throne of Lienid. Po was never given to such aspirations. The effect of this was to make him seem lazy, and Po’s mother encouraged him to underachieve and act as if he had no ambition, the better to hide his Grace and seem unaware of those around him.
However, his happy and carefree life came to an end when his grandfather, the king’s father, was kidnapped. He traveled to the mainland on a mission to find his grandfather and there came upon the protagonist of the book, a noble woman named Katsa who was Graced with the art of murder. Having quickly learned that she had already found and saved his grandfather, he traveled to Katsa’s home in the high court of another kingdom and began to try and unravel the mystery of why someone would kidnap an old, unwell and ultimately powerless man. He struck up a friendship with Katsa, herself terribly isolated by her killing Grace. Po was the only person Katsa had ever met who could stand up to her in a fight, and Katsa was the only person Po had ever met who could actually beat him. They both became smitten with the idea of a true challenge to their Graces. Together they planned to travel among the kingdoms of the land to find the culprit.
Only weeks after their meeting Katsa discovered the secret of Po’s true Grace. She was furious for she felt that he had lied to her and stolen her thoughts; miserable, Po decided to leave Katsa and solve the mystery on his own. However, after much angry discussion and the helpful push of Katsa being banished from her own home, Katsa decided to travel with Po. She did not trust him for a long while, but as they traveled they grew to become friends once again, and soon their friendship evolved into a romance.
While traveling they found that King Leck, a king of the land of Monsea, the southernmost kingdom on the mainland, was not only the criminal behind the kidnapping but was also himself a Graceling with the power to control people with his words. The plan was centered around the intent to torture Leck’s own wife Ashen, Po’s aunt, and their young daughter Bitterblue, Po’s cousin, until Ashen handed over Bitterblue and consented to let Leck hurt her. Upon saving Po’s cousin but losing his aunt to King Leck Po and Katsa found that Po did not succumb to Leck’s mind control because of his own Grace. Thus it was decided, while Katsa escaped with the young girl, that Po would be the one to kill Leck. The plan went awry though, and during the battle Po sustained a terrible head injury. Sick and weak, Po convinced Katsa that she had to leave him behind and save Bitterblue while he hid and recovered from the injury. Only a day after being left alone, though, Po’s condition worsened and rendered him blind.
Sightless and disoriented, Po spent several helpless days simply waiting to die. But when his head began to clear Po realized that he could not afford to stop fighting, for he was the only one who would be able to kill Leck and save his cousin. With this in mind, he began pushing himself toward health.
It is at this moment that I hope to pick Po up and put him on the Barge as a Warden. His deal with the Admiral, if possible, would be a dual payment: for one rehabilitated person Katsa and Bitterblue will make it safely out of Monsea. For two rehabilitated people, Po would regain his sight and thus be able to return home and kill Leck.
Re: Application: Prince Po 5/5
[A low, slightly gravelly voice can be heard from the device. It’s muffled at first, as if someone has his hand over the microphone, but then the sound clears up.]
Is it true that we can be heard from afar simply by speaking to this object? If I am heard, I ask: if I listen, will I be able to hear the voices of others not close to me?
[There is the sound of a short laugh.]
This invention can only be described as mythic. Whoever created it ought to sell it to my people; he would make a fortune of gold in days.
On a different subject: where in this place is there food?
Sample RP:
Po lay on the stiff cot on his back, hands over his eyes, trying hard to center himself. The world seemed to sway around him, turning at impossible angles. There were dozens of people below him, around him, above him, and the huge ship felt like a beehive, thousands of honeycombs buzzing with movement and noise.
…That made him think of honey. His stomach turned at the thought of the suffocating sweetness on his tongue. No, he would not think of food, not now. He would think only of centering himself. Shut out the noises, the thoughts, the haven of activity wrapped up in what seemed to be a vast vacuum of nothingness around them. He had sailed before, hundreds of times, but it had never felt so very close and suffocating. Perhaps he should not have come here after all; surely there were other ways to end the twisted Monsean king, surely he could find Katsa and Bitterblue once again –
There was a knock at the door. He shot to his feet, pitching to the side for a moment but quickly catching himself against the wall. When he opened the door he was smiling.
“Oh good, how wonderful it is to see a human face once again!”
