CHARACTER APPLICATIONSApplication periods are open all month, every month.
The Final Fantasy VII Compilation cast is at cap, and FFVII Compilation apps are currently closed. Please read all rules and guidelines before submitting an application. Be sure to check the
Taken Characters list and the
Retired Characters list before posting an application here.
NOTES:- After applying for a character, we ask that players allow 30 days before bringing their next character into the game. In some cases (warden or cast caps, upcoming major game events) players may approach the mod team and clear submitting an application a few days early, though it will not be approved before the 30 day mark.
- If you are applying into an existing cast, please be aware that we may speak to players of characters close to (any version of) the character, and will speak to the players of canonmates of the character for which you are applying. We reserve the right to reject an application if it would render a current character or characters unplayable in the opinion of their player(s). If your app is rejected for this reason, we ask that you respect the decision.
- Both samples may be taken from threads on the Test Drive Meme, as long as they are recent and match your application with respect to canonpoint and warden/inmate status. The TDM goes up once per month and is always marked on the Event Calendar. If you would prefer to write yours out and would like some inspiration, check out the Flood Event tag on the OOC community; you're welcome to write a sample based on your character's reaction after one of these events! Here are a few popular choices.
- Canons (or canonpoints, in the case of ongoing series) must have been out for at least 30 days before they can be applied for.
- If you're reapping a character that you previously dropped and you plan to have them retain their memories of their previous stint onboard, please include at least a few sentences discussing how their previous stay affected them, and noting any relevant changes to their personality, worldview, and motivations. The more significant the changes, the more detail we'd like.

REVISION REQUEST
We thank you for taking the time to apply to Last Voyages. Overall, the moderators like and approve of your application; however, we do have some things we need clarification on before we can provide you with a final approval. Please post your revisions within 72 hours, or we will reject your application.
We would like to see more about her suitability as a Warden (as required by the new app) and an update to her history regarding her time on the Barge. We would also like a new first person sample that reflects a returning character rather than a newcomer.
Re: REVISION REQUEST
I apologize for not reading the revised application more thoroughly.
Warden: Wichita's suitability as a warden was woefully low during her initial stay on the Barge. She was impatient, abusive, and temperamental with her inmate, at best. Over her extended tenure, Wichita began to realize that those unchecked instincts were harming her and her inmate's abilities to progress. She realized this too little too late with her first inmate, Hayley, who was re-sorted when she convinced Wichita that their relationship was more harmful than helpful for both of them.
During her second dedicated attempt with her second inmate, Sirius Black, Wichita approached the extremely wounded man with caution and sympathy at the beginning stages of their relationship. Though she found him volatile and antagonistic in response, instead of responding with anger or abuse, Wichita consciously began checking her initial impulses at the door. Results were shaky to start, but began to come on more strong and insistent as she found out more about her inmate through research. Wichita had never researched Hayley -- a grave and obvious mistake in her first Wardening attempt -- and she found the resulting empathy and understanding to be extremely helpful. Having truly recognized that graduation could not occur with her impulses unchecked, she began to constructively and objectively approach her inmate with a good deal of practice. Their relationship remained constructive, but Sirius was re-sorted too quickly, and Wichita couldn't handle what she deemed another rejection from the Admiral and left.
Wichita has grown as a Warden and a character due to the seriousness of her deal with the Admiral. She truly has no options left to her but to change to fit Barge life and attempt to learn the lessons to becoming a truly successful Warden. She will seek the help of more successful Wardens at the expense of her ego, and attend to her inmate in ways that she hasn't previously.
"We would also like a new first person sample that reflects a returning character rather than a newcomer."
I wasn't sure if you wanted it in journal entry format. I'd be happy to change it if that isn't what was intended by a new first person sample.
First-Person Sample:
[There's a lot to be said about a three-times-failed warden returning to the Barge. The one thing that sticks out in Wichita's mind, first and foremost, is failure. She doesn't sit as tall as she used to, and she certainly doesn't make the familiar, stern, almost confrontational eye-contact with the camera. It seems the purpose is purely informational with intermittent rambling.]
My name is Wichita.
[She cracks her knuckles; a blatant form of posturing. Even if she lacks the confidence she had before she was summarily kicked off the Barge, she tries to make up for it with other gestures.]
I'm from The Independent Republic of Zombieland. It's not really a republic -- that's my attempt at humor. Is anyone out there, or have I been asking for another chance aboard a now-defunct establishment? The Admiral's business model was never any good to start with.
[The sigh is a small one, but it's audible. Wichita relaxes a little, having received no immediate response.]
Better than rotting alive on a ruined planet. I guess this kind of humor only appeals if the odds are stacked against the audience in a post-apocalyptic setting. Not that I'd rule that out. Not here.
I still can't hit the broad side of a zombie with a pistol.
An update to her history regarding her time on the Barge:
At the end of the film, Wichita still has the same problems she began with: her sister is stuck in a zombie infested hellhole, with her childhood slowly slipping away. Wichita boards the Barge shortly after the end of the film, following another character, Tallahassee, who is aboard the Barge to resurrect his deceased infant son. The two of them were instantly familiar and supportive of one another, mutually agreeing that they would return to the same point in time that they left so that Columbus or Little Rock wouldn't suffer without them.
Wichita was assigned an inmate with incredible predispositions toward misogyny, but because her age was so close to her sister's, she attempted to reform her despite overwhelming odds and Wichita's inability to control her temper. Wichita was irreparably wounded by her eventual failure to reform Hayley Stark, blaming her lack of experience and incompetence with her own sister. Shortly after the two were re-sorted, Wichita disappeared from the Barge at the Admiral's behest -- she had become useless to him, unable to fulfill her deal.
Some quality time in Zombieland encouraged and revitalized her in her goals -- seeing her sister become a sharpshooting zombie killer was almost too much to handle. Upon returning to the Barge, many things had changed -- her impassioned relationship with one of the residents had dissolved, leaving her bewildered and discouraged, but still motivated intensely by her sister. Unable to be distracted from her goal, she attained another inmate, Sirius Black, who was reassigned a short time later after positive progress had been made between the two of them. After appealing to the Admiral for why she was losing every inmate she had committed to and receiving no answer, she decided to depart the Barge to rely on her friends and life in Zombieland to retain her sanity. Once again experiencing immense discontent with the fact that she could not save her sister and dear friends from living a life of constant fear, she begins to appeal to the Admiral once again by shouting at the sky during the day and whispering near silent prayers at night.
