TLV - Character Applications

CHARACTER APPLICATIONS

Application periods are open all month, every month.

The Final Fantasy VII Compilation cast is at cap, and FFVII Compilation apps are currently closed.

Please read all rules and guidelines before submitting an application. Be sure to check the Taken Characters list and the Retired Characters list before posting an application here.

NOTES:
  1. After applying for a character, we ask that players allow 30 days before bringing their next character into the game. In some cases (warden or cast caps, upcoming major game events) players may approach the mod team and clear submitting an application a few days early, though it will not be approved before the 30 day mark.

  2. If you are applying into an existing cast, please be aware that we may speak to players of characters close to (any version of) the character, and will speak to the players of canonmates of the character for which you are applying. We reserve the right to reject an application if it would render a current character or characters unplayable in the opinion of their player(s). If your app is rejected for this reason, we ask that you respect the decision.

  3. Both samples may be taken from threads on the Test Drive Meme, as long as they are recent and match your application with respect to canonpoint and warden/inmate status. The TDM goes up once per month and is always marked on the Event Calendar. If you would prefer to write yours out and would like some inspiration, check out the Flood Event tag on the OOC community; you're welcome to write a sample based on your character's reaction after one of these events! Here are a few popular choices.

  4. Canons (or canonpoints, in the case of ongoing series) must have been out for at least 30 days before they can be applied for.

  5. If you're reapping a character that you previously dropped and you plan to have them retain their memories of their previous stint onboard, please include at least a few sentences discussing how their previous stay affected them, and noting any relevant changes to their personality, worldview, and motivations. The more significant the changes, the more detail we'd like.

Re: REVISION REQUEST

Fully revised app can be found here, and these are the specific changes I made:

Revised From When?: The end of the series, when Katara catches her in an enormous burst of water. Just a moment of near-death, here. If she'd done anything as simple as gasped too hard in the instant that this happened it could have killed her.

Revised Abilities/Powers: Azula's unrestricted powers are unimaginably strong and controlled for a fire bender of her age. Despite being Zuko's younger sister, until the latter part of the series when training allowed Zuko to better master firebending, she far outmatched him. Her control of fire and the amount of power behind it is so intense that she no longer produces normal flames; hers are blue, and she is also capable of generating lightning and electricity (something that generally takes a complete mastery of one's emotions to control).

On the barge, her powers will be completely restricted in several ways.

There is no sun on the Barge, and fire benders in the series are shown to be without their abilities at certain times when their connection to the sun is cut off -- not at night or when they are out of sight of the sun, but when the Moon -- power-giver of the water benders (whose powers vanished when the moon was "killed") -- eclipses it, they are completely powerless. So I am going to assume that as an Inmate and not a Warden she exists in the state she would if the sun ceased to exist in her world (minus the flash-freezing). This will change if her warden decides to handle her otherwise.

In the CES and in ports with a sun, her powers are still significantly reduced. Her bending will not work without complete emotional calm -- which also means that until her Warden chooses to change it, she can't use fire bending to defend herself if she is afraid or panicking, and she cannot bend fire through anger, as many firebenders are known to do. Furthermore, she has to concentrate harder than she used to, so while it may be possible for her to reflexively bend fire, it is highly unlikely, and even the slightest distraction will cancel her out. Making lightning, which requires even more concentration, would tire her physically to the point of being unable to bend at all for some time without rest. The effort required in focusing enough to pinpoint a small, specific target (like an animal, a smaller person, or a specific point on a person) at further than point-blank range (even if it were unsuccessful) would cause her to lose consciousness. Her fire also won't be blue until her restrictions are further removed and she has more control. Bending fire, period, cannot be done for over-extended periods of time and will only be effective in short bursts. She could no longer, for instance, propel her full body weight in the air using fire bending. Her range will be less than a 10 ft radius with only very small (no larger than her hand) blasts capable of being shot at longer distances (they will burn out and dissipate if the distance exceeds 20 ft and are reduced in intensity by half at anything over 10 ft). Holding a single burst (cone-shaped attack, for instance) for more than 5 seconds would begin to tire her. Manipulating one piece of flame (as water benders might a single tendril of water) is also more difficult. She will lose control of it after about 5 seconds and can potentially burn herself. Effectiveness of these techniques (sans the 'emotional control' clause, which is a permanent factor) may increase only slightly (perhaps up to 10-15%) in extremely arid climates where there is not much moisture in the air, but not in full vacuum or any place with limited oxygen, ie extremely high altitudes or space.

Her capabilities as a hand to hand combatant are not reduced, however. She is dangerous with or without her powers, an excellent hand to hand combatant whose edge comes from unpredictability and a complete willingness to lie and cheat to get the upper hand. She lacks much in the way of weapons training because her preferred weapon has always been fire or her body -- she compensates with superior agility and speed. The style of martial arts that she uses is characteristic of that of the Fire Nation -- which greatly resembles Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. She is also a distinguished strategist, who planned the successful takeover of Ba Sing Se and quelled the invasion of the Fire Nation during Black Sun. Finally, and something not to be underestimated, is her supreme talent for lying -- she's indetectably good at lying and probably couldn't be picked up by conventional instruments or experts in reading facial expressions or voices.
