CHARACTER APPLICATIONSApplication periods are open all month, every month.
The Final Fantasy VII Compilation cast is at cap, and FFVII Compilation apps are currently closed. Please read all rules and guidelines before submitting an application. Be sure to check the
Taken Characters list and the
Retired Characters list before posting an application here.
NOTES:- After applying for a character, we ask that players allow 30 days before bringing their next character into the game. In some cases (warden or cast caps, upcoming major game events) players may approach the mod team and clear submitting an application a few days early, though it will not be approved before the 30 day mark.
- If you are applying into an existing cast, please be aware that we may speak to players of characters close to (any version of) the character, and will speak to the players of canonmates of the character for which you are applying. We reserve the right to reject an application if it would render a current character or characters unplayable in the opinion of their player(s). If your app is rejected for this reason, we ask that you respect the decision.
- Both samples may be taken from threads on the Test Drive Meme, as long as they are recent and match your application with respect to canonpoint and warden/inmate status. The TDM goes up once per month and is always marked on the Event Calendar. If you would prefer to write yours out and would like some inspiration, check out the Flood Event tag on the OOC community; you're welcome to write a sample based on your character's reaction after one of these events! Here are a few popular choices.
- Canons (or canonpoints, in the case of ongoing series) must have been out for at least 30 days before they can be applied for.
- If you're reapping a character that you previously dropped and you plan to have them retain their memories of their previous stint onboard, please include at least a few sentences discussing how their previous stay affected them, and noting any relevant changes to their personality, worldview, and motivations. The more significant the changes, the more detail we'd like.

REVISIONS
We thank you for taking the time to apply to Last Voyages. Overall, the moderators like and approve of your application; however, we do have some things we need clarification on before we can provide you with a final approval.
Neal seems like a fantastic character and your voice for him is wonderful! We'd love to have him in game. However, in order to qualify for inmate status, characters do actually need to have either directly or indirectly caused meaningful harm and have some culpability for it, and need to actually change and redeem themselves. While "realizing he isn't inherently Bad is an important step for him in breaking out of various harmful habits" is a perfectly legitimate inmate arc, "he actually doesn't deserve to be an inmate and doesn't need to change, and realizing he doesn't need redemption is important for his personal growth" is actually a pretty common warden arc!
Which, for the record, is potentially totally viable - his criminal history doesn't prevent him from being apped as a warden as long as he has something of value to offer a potential inmate, even if he's very much dealing with his own issues along the way.
If you'd like, you can retool this as a warden app, or if you'd still prefer to play him as an inmate, can you elaborate in your in your inmate section and/or Path to Redemption about what he does need to atone for/be redeemed from/change? It can be subtle! "His inability to be sincere with people consistently hurts them/leads to bad outcomes," or "he needs to be choosier about the victims of his crimes, instead of rationalizing his actions as inevitable/part of his nature" would be examples of inmate justifications that work somewhat with the "realizing he isn't inherently Bad" epiphany you've described without breaking the inmate system. (It's fine if Neal ICly ultimately remains angry or believes he was an inmate unjustly, but on an OOC level he shouldn't be an inmate unless he really does have something he needs to change to redeem himself.)
Redemption doesn't have to only be for murder and torture (Regina George of Mean Girls was once an inmate) or deliberate cruelty (right now we have an inmate who is unfailingly kind interpersonally, but whose stubborn arrogance and refusal to see nuance lead to somewhat predictable disasters that otherwise could have been prevented.) There's a wide range of possibilities!
Let us know what you prefer, or if you have any questions.
